Hisfamily has been planting vineyards andmaking wine in Maipú, a town just outsideMendoza, since 1963. It was Sebastián’sgrandfather Alberto ‘Tito’ Zuccardi, anengineer who came to Mendoza a few yearsbefore 1950, who planted the first vineyardto demonstrate to the farmers in the regionhow his new irrigation system would helptheir businesses.It should become the beginning of his life’spassion.alluvial plains of the Tunuyán River in Altamira,it was named after the amount of rocks andstones that had to be removed in order toplant vines, and is now the source of thewinery’s award-winning Malbec wine.The vineyard also gave the name for thePiedra Infinita Cocina restaurant with its floorto-ceilingwindows that allow an awe-inspiringview of the Andean landscape. The multicourselunch, using only the finest regionalproduce, is reminiscent of Michelin-starrestaurants and comes highly recommended.A third-generation family member to leadthe winery, Sebastián began the constructionof a new majestic 95,000-square-foot wineryin 2013 in Paraje Altamire, 125 km southof Mendoza, in the shadow of the AndesMountains. Designed by architects TomHughes, Fernando Raganato and EugeniaMora using only natural and local materialsboth inside and outside, the state-of-the-artfacility opened in 2016.Visiting the winery, guests can book atour which will not only show the amazingarchitecture of the facility with its shining metaldome, but will also include the fermentationroom with its amphorae-like concrete eggsand the barrel room with its stunning tastingroom.An in-depth introduction to the diverseterroirs will also include a visit to the flagship‘Piedra Infinita’ vineyard.
