THE SMART #1
The Smart brand may have been pulled out of Canada and
the United States, but it has lived on in Europe and other
markets and went electric-only. Recently, it expanded its
product lineup with the brand’s first SUV, called the #1
(“hashtag one”).
No longer a microcar at 4.25m, the powertrain consists of
a 66-kWh battery connected to a single electric motor on the
rear axle providing 268 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of
torque. Smart claims a top speed of 180 km/h and a range of
up to 440 km on Europe’s WLTP test cycle. There will also be
a Brabus performance variant.
We have a feeling it would do pretty well over here, too...
THE ABARTH 500E SCORPIONISSIMA
The press-release promises that “Performance has a new power.”
The Abarth 500e, the first-ever Abarth electric car, doesn’t look
as aggressive as the gas-powered model but the company
claims it is the most responsive and exciting 500 ever in city
driving and more responsive than the 695. It also beats the 695
by over a second on the ‘Misto Alfa Handling Track’ at Balocco.
The Abarth 500e uses a 37.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack
like the Fiat 500e, but it sports an electric motor that produces
113.7 kW and 235 Nm of torque. Plus, there are three exclusive
driving modes: Turismo, Scorpion Street, and Scorpion Track.
The sprint from 0-100 km/h takes seven seconds, 2.5 seconds
quicker than the Fiat 500e, and thanks to the available sound
generator, one can even hear the famous Abarth “roar”.
