THE DOUBLE ISSUE | www.pctechmagazine.com
Easter stick 2 Zains 238 kbp/s. Yeah...faster of
all... August 21 at 10:10pm
Miriam there is even faster than that japan
results, imagine Gigabyte connections in
europe....! for UG: you change to Orange, it's
quite fast... August 21 at 10:14pm
PC Tech Magazine How about this 2.35MBps
http://speedtest.net/result/923100854.png from
MTN? And i have got higher results in the past.
August 21 at 10:19pm
PC Tech Magazine @Miriam there's an ISP in
Europe who has an average of 55Mbps. So you
can only imagine what the highest speed is. August
21 at 10:29pm
Miriam for sure this speed test is not an
adequate tool, if even Philadelphia has worse
figures than uganda. And I know, my browser can
really suck bits when I download. Do not always
blame the network, blame also your browser! August
Miriam NetCologne in germany has also uptu
1Bbps lowest level connection with 155Mbps August
21 at 10:41pm
David Lets not look at jst the technology but
also the techno-economics. It's not that ISPs can't
get up those speeds, no. Bandwidth(internet
speed) is a "good" like anyother goods That's
subjected to the economic laws of demand and
supply.for in...stance are Ugandans able and
willing to have megabits/sec net at their homes at
e cost of e ISP. Do we have mega datacentres at
businesses to justify 40Mbps connectivity? Other
considerations include pc/IT literacy levels. How
much local do we have on the net...so still long
way to go but this is not to mean that ISPs shld
continue to give us backbreaking speeds. August 21
is its free.
Easter @miriam dat has sense. Browser
matters so much. August 21 at 10:55pm
Norman @David.... ur post does make lots of
sense... I thk e speed mtn/orange r providing now
r good enough at e moment considering what
people r willing to pay....because it doesn't make
sense for a provider to give ahigh yet very few r
willing to meet the cost, just wondering all u guys
who thk Ug is doin badly....how much are u willing
to spend on interest per month! August 22 at 12:46am
Miriam it is just interesting: URA for exampla
wants you (as a business) to pay your taxes
online and they refuse the papers, but there is
NOT an internet infrastructure than can ensure
access. As a german I have to register online
to the embassy'...s list. For one year I could not
manage to get to the end of that procedure: so
no registering, because paper was refused...
Does it make sense to put a roof before
foundation? So why do ministries and others
require internet, while UG cannot provide??? August
22 at 3:49pm
David Interesting discussing over there though
i don't think i understood miriam's submission
esp wen she says "UG can't provide". Also don't
get david's submission that "slow internet makes
more money" though from ure discussions one
fact is clear-UG I.T infrastructure is still premature
with even the existing market. August 22 at 7:13pm
Emmanuel these high speed networks a
very expensive, they cost billions of shillings to
buy and operate unless gov't subsidies the cost
the networks have to wait for the hardware/
operations cost to come down though Rwandatel
