separate personalities. An<br />
Emmy-winning TV movie<br />
starring Sally Field as <strong>the</strong><br />
patient and Joanne Woodward<br />
as <strong>the</strong> psychiatrist followed.<br />

During <strong>the</strong> spring a new show<br />
of 33 adult paintings by “Sybil,”<br />
whose name was actually<br />
Shirley Ardell Mason—including<br />
several signed by her o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
personalities—was on view at<br />
Vanderbilt University<br />
Medical Center. “The<br />
Hidden Paintings: The Secret<br />
Life of Sybil Revealed” ran<br />
through <strong>the</strong> end of April in <strong>the</strong><br />
Mezzanine Gallery of <strong>the</strong> main<br />
lobby of <strong>the</strong> Medical Center.<br />
Following <strong>the</strong> exhibit, <strong>the</strong><br />
St. Martin in <strong>the</strong> Fields Chamber Ensemble<br />

paintings began an international<br />
tour to Canada, Germany<br />
and South Africa.<br />
MUSIC:<br />
The spring season for <strong>the</strong><br />
Great Performances Series at<br />
Vanderbilt began in late<br />
February when <strong>the</strong> St. Martin<br />
in <strong>the</strong> Fields Chamber<br />
Ensemble visited Langford<br />
Auditorium and presented a<br />
program of works by Borodin,<br />
Dvorak, Shostakovich and<br />
Mendelssohn. Drawn from <strong>the</strong><br />
principal players of <strong>the</strong><br />
Academy of St. Martin in <strong>the</strong><br />
Fields Orchestra, <strong>the</strong> Chamber<br />
Ensemble was formed to perform<br />
larger chamber works as<br />
a string octet, string sextet, and<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r configurations including<br />
wind instruments.<br />
Vanderbilt’s Dyer Observatory<br />
took on <strong>the</strong> festive air of<br />
Carnival time in <strong>the</strong> Caribbean<br />
when <strong>the</strong> Vanderbilt Steel<br />
Band performed as part of <strong>the</strong><br />
Music on <strong>the</strong> Mountain<br />
Concert Series in late April.<br />
