Palm Springs Celebrates 85 Years!
Cruisin’ Through The Years
The City of Palm Springs 85th Anniversary
Celebration will be held on Saturday, April
8th from 11:30am to 9:00 pm in Downtown
Palm Springs and the Downtown Park.
Palm Springs was Incorporated April 20, 1938.
This year marks the 85th anniversary.
There will be a vintage car parade with so
many cars it’s a Guinness Book of World
Records attempt. (For inquiries on the vintage
car parade, please contact Keith McCormick).
Entertainment begins at noon with Elton John
tribute band in the downtown park beginning
at 7 pm. Dress your pet like your favorite
Hollywood celebrity for the dog costume
contest.
Sightings : Palm Springs celebrity visits occur
often, and we protect their privacy so they
return and others, like Jason Stuart - sends us a
press release every visit. We love them all! They
are fun, and they play with us like we are their
toys. I...never minded.
Another time current owner Rob, introduced
Timothy Ray Brown, who was in the crowd.
Brown as most know was the first person cured
of HIV and traveled the world like Johnny
Appleseed to provide “Timmy seeds,” which
supported significant HIV research. Sadly Tim
recently passed in Palm Springs. But on that
night, Rob matched the sentiment of scientists
worldwide have said for years,.
Celeb visits are a routine occurrence as many
famous people often show up to support the
LGBT community. Pride and the upcoming
Harvey Milk breakfast can attest to that. So it
is normal and fitting that we voted Tool Shed
the best Gay and Dive bar in Palm Springs ( Full
disclosure Tool Shed was a founding supporter
of this gay community and the DDG advertiser
for many years.) They have always been a
welcoming, gay-affirming, relaxed bar by day,
but at night things get different. Not off the
tracks, it becomes a traditional leather bar at
night for hawks, doves, and those who adore
them.
Voted the Best Bingo bar and Tool Shed’s
Tuesday Tunes, get many celeb fans enjoying
hosts Dj Corey’s and Larry Atello’s while
affirming our place in the world.
So It is not surprising the Tool Shed Bar gets
its share. I still remember and have pictures of
the warm sands sting victory party. I delivered
my magazine and prepared my pitch for the
human rights legal team’s warm sands gay
rights victory party, called the “Warm Sands
Stand.” The owner Chris said yes, you had me
at Warm Sands! Many great events happened
both inside and behind that bar, when they
rope off the crowd and have at it and find it a
tight fit, to get all those men inside one little
area. But they do it and back lot parties brings
villagers from miles around.
