DataHub in Information Warehouse Framework DataHub′s object-action-based platform feature and integrated tools feature help database administrators manage database objects throughout the enterprise. DataHub′s tool integration capability is open and addresses database systems management tasks in the areas of change, configuration, operations, and problem management. Tool functions are initiated from the DataHub/2 workstation and may invoke other tool functions on the host systems. The tool functions are written to predefined standards and use common services and documented open interfaces, namely, Distributed Relational <strong>Database</strong> Architecture* (DRDA*), Common Programming Interface - Communications (CPI-C), and Common User Access (CUA*). Figure 2 positions DataHub in the Information Warehouse* framework. Figure 2. DataHub in Information Warehouse Framework DataHub helps database administrators create and manage the Information Warehouse environment in the following ways: • Manage databases from single control point From the DataHub/2 workstation DataHub helps manage operational databases and information stores. DataHub provides a window on all database objects and users throughout the information system. • Display database objects 2 DataHub Implementation and Connectivity DataHub displays and provides information on relational database objects and their related components anywhere in the enterprise. • Copy data to an information store DataHub has the facility to copy database objects from one database to another.
• Manage authorizations on relational data 1.1 DataHub Architecture Overview With DataHub it is possible to display the authorizations for all objects and users of a database in the system and then copy, add, or delete those authorizations. DataHub consists of a workstation component and host components. Each DataHub component has a platform feature and an optional tools feature, both of which operate as a client/server application. The DataHub functions significantly simplify the tasks of database administrators, system administrators, help desk personnel, system programmers, and application programmers in a centralized or distributed database environment. Figure 3 shows a possible DataHub configuration that supports four SAA hosts: MVS, VM, OS/400, and OS/2. Figure 3.
