1.1.1 Platform Feature 1.1.2 Tools Feature 4 DataHub Implementation and Connectivity On each host, there is a host-specific DataHub component called DataHub Support. The host component does not have a GUI; user access to DataHub Support is from a DataHub/2 workstation only. In the same way, tools can be initiated only from a DataHub/2 workstation. The DataHub product set includes: • The workstation component, including: − DataHub/2 workstation platform feature − Optional tools feature − Optional requester feature • The host components, including: − DataHub Support/400 host platform feature with integrated tools feature − DataHub Support/MVS host platform feature with an optional tools feature − DataHub Support/VM host platform feature with integrated tools feature − DataHub Support/2 host platform feature with an optional tools feature. Each DataHub Support host component is ordered separately. The DataHub platform feature includes common services that provide communications and run-time function between the DataHub/2 workstation and the hosts. These common services facilitate the development, integration, and execution of database systems management tools. The Run function is part of the platform feature and is used to execute SQL, MVS JCL, and Application Systems/400 SQL (AS4SQL) statements at a host. Those statements are stored in an OS/2 file that DataHub/2 can recognize. If the input file to Run contains only SQL, DRDA flows are used for all platforms except OS/2, where RDS is used. For MVS JCL and AS4SQL statements, tools conversation flows are used to send the file contents to DataHub Support at the target host. The DataHub Tool Builder′s Guide and Reference describes how to use the DataHub common services when developing database systems management tools. The DataHub tools feature provides database systems management functions, such as copying objects and managing authorizations. You can access the functions through the DataHub/2 window, by entering the command and required syntax from the command line, or by starting the command from the command line and completing it in the DataHub/2 window. Commands can also be stored in a command file and then retrieved and executed, thus reducing the effort required for repetitive tasks. The tools feature functions include the following: • Utilities The Utilities functions call utilities at a host. Not all Utilities functions are available on all database managers. For instance, the local OS/2 Database Manager (DBM) provides backup and recovery of OS/2 databases with a GUI.
The supported utilities are: − Load − Unload − Backup − Recover − Reorganize − Update Statistics. • Copy Data The Copy Data function enables you to copy object definitions like table, view, and index, as well as table data from one database to another. • Manage Authorizations The Manage Authorizations function enables you to copy, add, or delete user and object authorizations between and within databases. • Display Status The Display Status function enables you to see which processes are running and the database activity on both local and distributed database management systems (DBMSs). Figure 4 is a sample of a DataHub/2 workstation window with database objects and hosts displayed. The table Q.STAFF has been selected.
