INDUSTRY DIRT Jet Setters The Water Jetting Association, a trade association representing organizations that have a professional and commercial interest in all aspects of high-pressure water jetting in the United Kingdom, recently launched a new code of practice for pressure washing. “Pressure washing has become so commonplace that many businesses are not taking nearly enough precautions to protect their operatives or colleagues in the work area,” stated WJA president John Jones at the time of the announcement. “The need is urgent. Many operatives do not receive structured training, do not use the right PPE, and are unaware of the hazards they face.” Jones argued that easy access to pressure washing equipment has lulled people into a false sense of security. “Those who operate home pressure washers in shorts and flip-flops are likely to take that mindset into the workplace,” he said. The new code also includes new water jetting medical guidelines created following research into water jetting injuries commissioned by the WJA and carried out by a team of leading NHS trauma doctors. Their study, published in European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Medicine, confirmed the likelihood that many high-risk fluid injection injuries are not being properly diagnosed by GPs and emergency doctors. “Every person, from the first responder, to the paramedic, the emergency doctor, GP and therapist, has a part to play in minimizing long-term effects,” Jones stated. “With this in mind, all WJA-qualified water jetting operatives carry a medical card alerting emergency medics to consider fluid injection injuries.” Ganging Up Charlottesville, Virginia-based Premium Service Brands (PSB), a leader in home services franchise opportunities, announce in May 2023 the acquisition of Window Gang, an exterior cleaning franchise. Don’t Fear the Reaper Savage, MN-based Hydra-Flex, Inc. aims to once again “revolutionize” the sewer jetting industry with the launch of its newest innovation – the Revolution by Reaper sewer jetting nozzle. According to the company, the Revolution combines unparalleled new cleaning power with everything customers already love about Hydra- Flex’s Reaper nozzles. Like the Reaper, the Revolution features a forceful front rotating stream and powerful back jets to cut and clear the toughest blockages, but it goes a step further with a new 360° rotating sub-head with dual jets that completely clean and de-scale the pipe. This all-in-one tool simultaneously cuts, clears, and cleans to help operators work faster, save water, and save money. Rather than using one nozzle to clear blockages and another to clean the pipe, the Revolution does it all to improve efficiency and help improve the bottom line. “Our operators were impressed by the nozzle’s performance,” said Andy Keller, Sewer Department foreman for Big Bear City, California. “It is excellent at cleaning the pipe walls. This nozzle is now our first choice for pre-jetting for CCTV inspections.” The Revolution is ready to take on countless tasks, including municipal sewer cleaning and removal of roots, fats, oil, grease, and more. The nozzle operates between 1,000 and 2,500 PSI with a flow range of 40-80 GPM. The new rotating sub-head is designed to maintain consistent speed throughout the nozzle’s life. A stainless-steel centralizer is included to ensure the nozzle stays centered within the pipe. Speaking of life, the Revolution is proven to outlive the competition. Human Error Vistara, India’s leading full-service carrier and a joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, announced in June 2023 the implementation of Aerowash, an automated aircraft exterior washing and cleaning solution introduced by AeroTech Support Services Pvt. Ltd. Operated by a user friendly and wireless remote control, Aerowash is equipped with several safety features and alarm indicators. Traditional aircraft washing is considered difficult, time-consuming, risky to workers, and most importantly, fraught with potential errors that a robot is less likely to make. The Titanium Tall Reach Tip (Shooter Tip) For 8-10 Gpm Anodized Blue / Purple Finish is to be used on on 8gpm-10gpm pressure washers or 10gpm softwash pumps. It is made from titanium, which means its weight is approximately 50 percent that of a stainless steel shooter tip. Also available is the Titanium Tall Reach Tip (Shooter Tip) For 4-7 Gpm Anodized Blue / Purple Finish, which is used as a soap tip for pressure washing. It is to be used for on 4gpm-5.5gpm pressure washers or 5-7gpm softwash pumps. It also makes use of titanium as material, which means that compared to steel, it is lightweight, strong, and corrosion resistant.
