InCommon campaign
By SHELLEY TOPP
Aposter campaign focusing on the
similarities between people, rather
than theirdifferences, is being
planned in Waimakariri.
The InCommon campaign was
initially developedinresponse to
the ChristchurchMosque shootings
in 2019.
It encourages people to examine
theirthoughts and beliefs about
others, who at first glance might
seem differenttothem, andfocus on
the common thingshumansshare.
The Waimakariri poster campaign
is acollaboration betweenthe
Waimakariri District Council’s
communityteam and the InCommon
project team.
InCommon project manager Holly
Griffin says she is excitedtobe
collaborating with the council for
this campaign.
‘‘We have already seensome
lovely connections formed between
participants`models' in the
campaign,’’she says.
‘‘This is thesecondposter
campaignfocused on inclusivity that
we have collaborated on with a
partner.
‘‘Ourfirst was with health
promotion students at Ara Institute
of Canterbury in October last year.’’
InCommon is acrosssector
initiative thatwas established by a
groupofpeople who wanted to
contribute to help bringabout a
kinder, more socially inclusive
society.
‘‘We want to showthe connections
that we haveacrossour differences,
acrosscultural barriers, across
disability and accessibility issues,
acrossage and stages of life. As a
district Waimakariri is becoming
more diverse everyyear and we want
to celebrate our growing diversity.
‘‘It has been great to work with
