Wednesday July 26 2023 Selwyn Times Latest Canterbury news at starnews.co.nz SPORT 17 Greenpark shoots to top of the table • By Jaime Cunningham AFTER EIGHT consecutive wins, Greenpark A put an end to Burnham A’s perfect season with a nail-biting 46-45 win over the defending champions last week. Sitting at the top of the table with four wins recorded in the round, Greenpark will be expected to continue their second round winning streak against Broadfield A tomorrow night. Although Greenpark led throughout the game, Burnham never backed down, trailing by one for most of the match. Olivia Clark led Burnham’s shooting, netting all but three of the team’s 45 goals. Maia Hill was once again a focal point for Greenpark A, shooting 37 goals from 43 attempts at 86 per cent. Broadfield take on Greenpark A after they narrowly beat Halswell Rugby League A 41-36 to move off the bottom of the standings. Broadfield and Halswell went into the fourth game of the round needing wins. Although Halswell had a narrow 10-8 lead after the first quarter, it was Broadfield’s game from then on. Both teams were accurate throughout the game, with Halswell shooting at 92 per cent and Broadfield at 82 per cent. A strong third quarter from West Melton wasn’t enough to pull back Greenpark B’s lead in their clash last week, with Greenpark winning 53-42. Greenpark B take on Lincoln A, who also had a comfortable win last week. Fourth-placed Lincoln toppled Malvern A 56-43, closing out the game with a strong 15-8 last quarter. A win against Greenpark B would see Lincoln climb further up the standings ahead of semi-finals next month. Malvern have the challenge of Burnham A as their playoffs hopes slip out of grasp. Although Burnham will be disappointed after their first loss of the season, they will be expected to produce a large win over the newly promoted Malvern. • Rolleston College’s historic win, page 20 Tomorrow’s draw (Selwyn Sports Centre): Lincoln A v Greenpark B, 6.30pm, court 1; West Melton A v HRLNC A, 6.30pm, court 2; Malvern A v Burnham A, 8pm, court 1; Greenpark A v Broadfield A, 8pm, court 2.
