Para-badminton
camp an ‘amazing
experience’ for coach

COACH JO Christie has
returned from a five-day
para-badminton training
camp in Thailand where
she represented Badminton
Oceania.
Christie, who is a player and
coach at the Lincoln Badminton
Club, was accompanied by
Canterbury SL3 (lower limb)
player Carrie Wilson.
Wilson trained alongside five
players from Australia for two
sessions a day at the National
Sport Center for Disabled in
Suphan Buri, 122km north-west
of Bangkok.

Rolleston making their mark
on SuperNet Reserve grade

AFTER PULLING off arguably
the biggest win in Rolleston
College netball history, the senior
A team will look to back up their
surprise victory this afternoon
against Middleton Grange
School.
The newly-promoted team
cemented their place in the
SuperNet Reserve grade with
a convincing 33-20 win over
Rangi Ruru in their first ever
appearance in the grade last
Wednesday.
Rolleston now take on
Middleton Grange at Avonside
Girls’ High School at 4.40pm
today. Middleton Grange lost to
Avonside 29-23 last week.
A win for Rolleston would see
them edge closer to a semi-final
spot ahead of the last round
robin game next week.
The team gained promotion to
the SuperNet Reserve grade after
finishing top of the A grade’s
division 1 table last term.
Rangi Ruru have had a poor
season so far, losing all their
SuperNet games and, as a result,
were dropped to the reserve
grade for the remainder of the
year.
But underdogs Rolleston
proved too strong for Rangi Ruru
who are a perennial SuperNet
team each year.
The young team, the majority
of whom are in year 11 and 12,
also play for Burnham in the
premier 2 competition at Selwyn
Netball Centre, where they are
sitting at the top of the table with
five wins from five games.
