Les adversaires peuvent être connus à l’avance ou
non. Dans ce dernier cas, un lutteur fait la ronde, le
poing levé, pour inviter celui qui aura le courage de
l’affronter; il fait le parcours durant 40 secondes à
1 minute. Quand quelqu’un se lance pour le défier,
le combat peut commencer. Un combat dure en
général 15 à 30 minutes et est rythmé par différentes
animations comme le son de tambours et des chants.
Il faut avoir une bonne condition physique pour
arbitrer cette discipline. C’est l’arbitre qui annonce
la victoire après abandon d’un participant ou quand
ce dernier déboîte ou est K.O. En fin de partie, le
perdant appelle le vainqueur en criant pour montrer le
fairplay et l’unité mais surtout pour respecter la valeur
malgache «Adin’ombalahin’ny mpianakavy, ny mahery
tsy hobiana, ny resy tsy akoraina» (La compétition est
considérée comme familiale, on ne doit ni faire l’éloge
des vaillants ni ridiculiser les vaincus).
The contestants sometimes, but not always, know
their opponent’s identity in advance. In certain cases,
a fighter circles the ring with his fist raised, inviting
anyone who dares to come and fight. This lasts between
40 seconds and one minute and when somebody
decides to defy him, the combat begins. A round lasts
between 15 and 30 minutes and is accompanied by
different rhythms, such as drumbeats and singing.
Fighters must be in good physical condition to take
part in this discipline. The referee announces the victory
after one of the fighters abandons, steps out of the ring
or is knocked out. The loser congratulates the winner
at the end of the match, to show fair play and solidarity,
but above all to respect the Malagasy principle:
‘Adin’ombalahin’ny mpianakavy, ny mahery tsy hobiana,
ny resy tsy akoraina’ (competition is considered to be
like the family, you should neither praise the victors nor
make fun of the losers).
