Earlier this month was RailSafety Week, a<br />
campaign by KiwiRail and TrackSAFE,and<br />
embraced by Hurunui District Council.<br />
Hurunui District Council’s Road Safety<br />
Coordinator Dean Eades says the number of<br />
level rail crossings in <strong>Canterbury</strong> represents<br />
ahigh proportion of New Zealand’s 1500<br />
public level crossings, and 1300 level<br />
crossings on private land, which combined<br />
is over a4000km stretch of rail.<br />
Give Wayand Stop signs at crossings are<br />
there to protect the public. We,asdrivers,<br />
walkers and riders, need to pay more<br />
attention when crossing the tracks.<br />

are apedestrian at alevel crossing.<br />
–look up from your<br />
phone! Again, extremely important<br />
