There is a legend saying
that in ancient times, people of
the Fergana Valley (in ancient
times – Davan) bred the horses
of unearthly beauty, elegance,
power and grandeur. Horses were
also known outside the state.
Due to their extreme endurance,
the Chinese called them heavenly
horses. They even initiated
wars to conquer the horses of
Ferghana, but their attempts were
unsuccessful.
After the first defeat in 104
BC, the Chinese emperor Wu-di
again decides to take possession
of Davan territory, and this time
the Fergana people, having been
defeated, got obliged to supply
China with 300 horses per year
for its army.
