ROLLESTON College’s
senior A netball team will be
looking to make history at
the South Island secondary
schools tournament after their
impressive SuperNet Reserve
season came to a close last
week.
Rolleston go into next week’s
South Island tournament
in Invercargill with a 17th
seeding in the B grade, after
they recorded their best finish
last year.
The team will be wanting
to improve their ranking,
on the back of the SuperNet
Reserve and Selwyn’s premier
2 finals.
Rolleston were unable
to repeat their previous
success against Rangi Ruru
A in Wednesday’s SuperNet
Reserve final, going down
28-22.
The team also suffered a 33-
27 loss on Saturday in a tight
battle against Burnham B in
Selwyn’s premier 2 final.
However, making both finals
were a massive milestone for
Rolleston.
After being promoted
to SuperNet Reserve, they
went on to win all but one
game leading up to the final.
Rolleston also won 10 out of
12 round-robin games in the
premier 2 competition.
Due to their second-place
finish in SuperNet Reserve,
Rolleston will play in next
year’s SuperNet qualifying
tournament for the first time.
The tournament sees
the top-three teams from
the reserve grade play the
bottom three SuperNet sides
for a place in Canterbury’s
top competition for school
netballers.
