Coastal erosion puts houses at risk
By ROBYN BRISTOW
The cliffisedgingclosertotwo houses
Coastal erosionhas eaten awayatthe
cliff face, leavingthe housesperched
precariously above.
To ensure the safety of theowners,
andothers nearby, theHurunui
District Council has stepped in.
It is discussing thefuture of the
houses withtheirowners as they are
getting close to ‘‘threatening to fall off’’
thecliff, sayschief executiveHamish
Dobbie.
‘‘They are getting prettyclosetothe
edge,’’ he says.
‘‘We have an opportunity now to geta
good outcome.
‘‘There is alonglegalprocessunder
theBuilding Acttodeal with situations
like thiswhenthereisarisk to homes
and life.’’
The process of the houses being
issued withDangerousBuilding
discussionwith theowners,hesays.
TheAct,considersabuilding
‘‘injuryordeath’’ to anyone in it, or to
He says aGeotech report hasbeen
done, andnow ‘‘we areindiscussions
Coastal erosionisnot anew problem
at MotunauBeach,saysMrDobbie.
‘‘It has been an ongoing problem for
years.
‘‘The council owns asection on the
Mr Dobbiewarnscoastalerosion is a
‘‘fact of life’’.
‘‘It is anaturalprocess in thecoastal
environmentand we willwork with
landowners to dealwith it.’’
The importantthingwas to find ways
of dealingwith whatwas happening to
the‘‘environment aroundus’’.
‘‘Sometimes houses topplingfrom
cliffshappen catastrophically, as was
thecaserecently in the North Island.’’
Ring in meter box returned to finder
The mystery of aring found in the old
Culverdenpostal exchange remains
unsolved.
Constable Damian Schuurman of
Culverden, says he has just informed the
finder that he was unable to identify an
owner for the small diamond ring.
The ring was found tucked away in an
old meter box, in the former Culverden
Post Office, and its discovery prompteda
whodunit investigation in the town.
Social media and local residents failed to
turn up any clues. Police had it
examined by aspecialist who found no
unique identifiers.
‘‘I followed up with acouple of leads
that came through from the Facebook
and newspaper article,but all were
unsuccessful,’’ ConstableSchuurman
says.
The finder, an employeeofalocal
garage, found the old tatty ring box
secreted in behind the switchboard and
cables.
It was coveredindust and looked like
it had been there for decades. Removing
it and dusting it off, he discovered it
contained agold ring covered in jewels,
and passed it on to the Police.
‘‘Sadly we shall neverknow who the
owner of the ring was, or the story behind
it, so Isoshall be returning it to the
finder,’’ says Constable Schuurman.
Solar and agriculture proposed
By ROBYN BRISTOW
Aproposed solarfarm near Waipara
aimstocombineagriculture,
horticulture and energyproduction on
the same site, the developers say.
Far NorthSolar Farm(FNSF)says it
willbeapioneering example of
modern, sustainable, landuse in the
age of renewable energy generation.
It says the proposed 200ha solar
farmwill generateenough electricity
to power around 28,000 average kiwi
homes.
But FNSF’splan is not being
receivedwell by many of the Waipara
district locals.
Theysay the proposalwill be ablot
on the landscape due to the sheer
scale of the project, will devalue their
properties, anddestroythe dreams of
someproperty owners, alongwith the
character of the valley and its
vineyards
Far NorthSolar Farmchief
executiveJohn Telfer saysthe design
would allow for the continuation of
sheep farming as wellaspotentially
developing aportion of the site in
grapevines, in keeping with other
horticulture in the area.
“Agrivoltaics is commonoverseas
and is agreat way to provide
sustainable dualland use
development in agricultural areas,
especially those prone to drought as
North Canterbury can be,”hesays.
Stakeholder and community
consultationisunder way, and
technicalstudies to assess the
viability of the agrivoltaic solar farm
model wouldalso be completed, Mr
Telfer says.
Landowner Tom Kidnersees the
venture as an opportunity to diversify
his farm income.
‘‘With highinterest ratesand
slumping commodity prices, farmers
are having to think innovativelyand
diversify to stay profitable and
sustainable,sothe prospect of
developing anew cash crophere,
throughenergy production, would be a
realboost,” Mr Kidner says.
The key motivation in developing
the siteasasolar farm was to make a
positive contribution to helping the
country reach its emissionsreductions
targets by facilitating the
growth of renewable energy, he says.
Agrivoltaics works by growing crops
or grassbetweenthe rows of solar
panels, allowing for dual use of the
availableland.The panels provide
periods of shade throughout the day
for plants and animals reducing
ground temperatures and moisture
loss within the soil.
Arecent Massey University study
foundthe areasbetween the rows of
solarpanelsproduced nearly 40%
more grass than areas that received no
Solar impression ... Agraphic of the proposed Waipara solar farm layout and possible
agrivoltaics site.
GRAPHIC: SUPPLIED
periodic shadingatall, Mr Kidner
says.
‘‘Withclimate changepredicted to
make droughtsmore frequent and
intense, having the benefits of shading
from the panels could make areally
positive difference to the productivity
of the whole site,’’hesays.
The Waipara sitewas specifically
chosen because it is flat and close to
the Waipara substation.
FNSF says this is crucialbecause
solar farmsneed to be abletoconnect
to existing electricity infrastructure to
input their power –like an extension
cord plugging into awall socket. The
shorterthe extension cord, the more
cost effective the connection.
Mr Telfer says carefuldesign
planning and tree planting would be
used to screen the solar farm from
most publicviewpoints.
One Waipararesident says aftera
visit from Far North Solar, they feel as
though their legitimateconcerns are
being dismissedas‘‘disinformation’’.
‘‘People are genuinely worried
about how it will affect their livesand
to say that’s all disinformation is just
callous,’’ they say.
‘‘The proposal has left us very
distressed,and it’shard to convey just
howsignificant it is to us.’’
They say FNSFisverging on
spreading falseinformation
themselves, and admitted duringa
visit parts of aleafletthey handed out
were wrong.
‘‘In particular the leaflet saidthat
the plantwould be quiet as it would
contain no moving parts.
‘‘But when we asked he confirmed it
would have moving partsasthe panels
would be on amoving tracking system.
‘‘So the statement aboutnoise was
just wrong.’’
Mr Telfersays New Zealand still
burns fossil fuels to supply almost 20%
of the country’s electricity needs.
He saysthe renewable energy
outputfrom the Waiparasolarfarm
would effectively provide emission
offsets equivalenttoremoving 13,644
cars from the nationalfleet.
The proposedWaipara solar farm is
ajointdevelopmentbetweenFar
North Solar Farm,asolarenergy asset
developer based in Auckland,and
AquilaCleanEnergyAsia Pacific, a
clean energyplatform headquartered
in Singapore. Aquila Clean Energy is
part of Aquila Group, aglobal
sustainable investmentmanagement
and asset developmentcompany,
based in Hamburg,Germany.
The partnershipisinvestingina
portfolio of utilityscale solar projects
acrossNew Zealandwith atotal1.4GW
pipeline of projectsunder
development.
This would represent almost 15% of
the country’s current total operational
electricityproduction capacity which
was 9.79GW in 2022 (MBIE).
Amberley golfers hope to secureaccess
to their golf coursethrough awetland.
The HurunuiDistrict Council will
investigate extending Griersons
the wetland in abid to secure access to
the AmberleyBeach GolfClub course,
mahingakai areas in the Waimaiaia
The decision follows adeputation
fromgolfclubpresident Bruce Yates
and club member PaulWylie to
Tuesday’scouncil meeting,which was
support by morethan 50 club members.
The newroad would replace the
southernend of Golf LinksRoad, which
has comeunderthreat fromcoastal
Council chiefexecutiveHamish
But Mr Wylie believeditwas possible
The future of the historicraceway
was put in doubtduring Aprillast year
after theCanterbury Regional Review
of Raceways,commissioned by Racing
NZ —made up of the three racing
codes,thoroughbred,harnessand
greyhounds—recommended it should
be ‘‘disposed of after the 23/24 season’’.
The recommendation wasmade
despitethe review also findingthat the
majority of horses in thewider
and that support wasreinforced by
Residents encouraged to have their wells
tested for nitrates to ensure levels are safe
By DAVID HILL,
Local Democracy Reporter
Private welltesting in the
Waimakariridistrict hasfoundthere
are no wellsabove the national
standard for nitrate levels.
But areportprepared by
‘‘We arecontinuallyfindingthe
wells we are testing in Eyreton and
Cust are exceedingthe limit set in
Plan Change 7,’’ Ms Allen said, at a
recent utilities and roading
committee meeting.
‘‘It is about encouraginglandowners
to agreetohave their wells tested.’’
The maximumacceptable value for
nitratenitrogen was 11.3 milligrams
per litre, set in the Drinkingwater
Standards for New Zealand (2022).
But overseas studieshave suggested
that levelistoo high.
This prompted the Waimakariri
Zone Committeetorecommend a
median value of halfofthe maximum
acceptable valueof5.65 mg/L,which
has been set as atarget in Plan Change
7.
The councilbegan testing wells in
2019, afterconcerns were raised by
the zone committee, and as now
testing around 40 private wells each
year.
Whilethe well testing was voluntary,
changing national standardsmeant it
couldbecome the council’s
responsibility to act on unsafe
drinking water in private wells in the
future.
The propertyowners took the
samples themselves, usually in the
spring, andsent themtothe council
for testing.
It meant there was no consistency,
as some propertyowners sent in
multiple samples, while others chose
not to send any.
Environment Canterbury has also
been testing private wells throughout
the region.
Committee chairperson Cr Niki
Mealings encouraged private well
owners to submittotesting.
‘‘It is not the end of the worldifthe
numberscome backnot great, but it
means there are things you need to do
to ensure yourwater source is safe.
Cr Paul Williams questioned if more
could be donetobring newly subdivided
properties on to council
controlled water supplies.
Three watersmanagerKalley
Simpson said new property owners
were offeredthe option of goingon to
acouncil supply wherever possible.
‘‘Where it is not arequirement to be
on acouncil supply, they are entitled
to put in an individual bore.
‘‘I thinkthere is value for
developers in their marketing to
advertisethat thereispotential to
have theirwater connectedtoa
council supply.’’
Acouncilbookletwas also included
in LIMS reports explaining the
ongoing maintenance requiredfor
private water supplies.
patronage across the
The rise in patronage
comesdespite21% of
saying working from home
had affected their travel
months, an Environment
Canterbury spokesperson
said.
Rangiora route 1
express trips for June
were 2175, compared to
2992 in June2019, while
1702 people boardedthe
The Rangiora service
was usedby2164
passengers in June and
2087 in July,while in
Kaiapoi patronage was
1515 and 1509 for the same
two months. The Waikuku
experienced adramatic
increase in passenger
numbers, with 2009
passengers in June and
1675 in July,compared to
679 and 808 for the same
two months in 2019.
New flat fares of $2 and
Arural perspective
By ROBYN BRISTOW
Otago MedicalSchool students gained a
rural perspectivelast week on providing
healthcare services in adistrictwith a
large footprint but low population base.
Hurunui Mayor Marie Black hosted the
visiting students in HurunuiDistrict
Councils Chambers lastThursday,aspart
of the thirdyear students assessment of
healthcare provisioninrural areas.
The students visited healthcare
providers around Hurunui, including
medical centres, St John, Rural Support
Trust and apreschool.
Mrs Black saysHurunui’s
demographics provideboth challenges
and opportunitieswhen it comes to
delivering and accessinghealth services.
‘‘Withnopublic transport and over 25
per cent of the population over the age of
65 by 2051,the challenge is providing
accesstohealthcare services and
medical appointments to the elderly, as
well as young people who often don’t
have aDriver Licence,’’she says.
Mrs Black, who was previouslya
Plunket health workerlivingand working
in Hurunui, saidthe opportunities that
come with living in Hurunui are the same
that enrich many other rural
communities—adesire to give back and
look for communityled solutions.
The HawardenWaikari Community
Vehicle Trusts AGM last week revealed
69 peopleover the past yearwere picked
up fromtheir homes, taken to medical
appointments and brought backhome in
acommunityowned car.
‘‘This reliesonour volunteers to
provide adignifiedservice in the
absence of publictransport.’’
Of Hurunui's five healthcentres,four
are community owned, she told the
students.‘‘These are funded by our
ratepayers.’’
Kimonos new life
By SHELLEY TOPP
Aclothes designer is giving new life to
exquisite fabrics from vintage Japanese
kimonos at aRangiora exhibition.
Ashburton’s Nana Sakaguchi was born
in Japan, but moved to New Zealand in
2008.
At that time she began making her own
clothes using Japanese patterns, and a
secondhand sewing machine, because
she missed the Japanese style of fashion.
Now she is designing and creating her
own clothing collection for her business
Hena Hena, and is having the first
exhibition of her work, Reviving Kimono
To Flourish, in the Chamber Gallery in
the Rangiora Library.
She now has her own sewing room
with two industrial sewing machines and
the simple, stylish clothes she designs,
which allow the fabric to be the star, are
in big demand.
‘‘The material is already the work of
art so Itry not to disturb it by keeping my
designs simple,’’ she says.
Nana handpicks the kimonos she
wants to repurpose from a‘‘preloved
kimono store’’ in Kyoto, the city where
she was born and raised.
She imports the kimonos to New
Zealand and then unpicks each garment
and washes and irons the material to use
it for her new creations.
Recycling the kimono fabric is
laborious compared to using new fabric,
she says, but she believes the extra effort
is worthwhile to ‘‘pass on the beauty of
Japanese kimonos’’ in awearable form
to future generations worldwide.
Kimonos were once everyday clothing
treasured by Japanese women and often
passed down through generations of
families, she says. But as fashion
preferences have changed over the years
many kimonos are now kept in storage
and only used for special occasions.
Glass work by Waikuku artist, Eiko
Kawaguchi, who was also born and
raised in Japan, is also on show at the
exhibition.
Housing affordability tough
While housing affordability in New
Zealand has generally been improving
as property values fall, incomes rise and
interest rates stabilise.
But mortgage repayments are still
eating up alarge proportion of people’s
income, according to the latest
CoreLogic Housing Affordability
Report.
Figures show, however, there has
been aslight drop on what is being spent
out of gross income in an average
household on mortgage repayments —
down to 49 percent from 53%.
CoreLogic NZ Chief Property
Economist Kelvin Davidson says the
situation still looks pretty testing for
new buyers.
‘‘Even after the recent improvements,
almost half of ahousehold’s income is
being eaten up by interest repayments.
‘‘Although lower mortgage rates seem
likely over aone to two year horizon,
we’re not expecting any relief via rate
cuts in the immediate to shortterm,’’ Mr
Davidson says.
Which doesn't bode well for new home
buyers.
Tauranga tops the list of least
affordable centres to buy anew home,
followed by Auckland, Dunedin,
Hamilton, Christchurch and Wellington.
Rental affordability is also relatively
unchanged
Mr Davidson said rising incomes will
have helped tenants in terms of rental
affordability, but that has been offset by
growth in rents themselves.
Flexibility in homes
can create spaces
By JOHN COSGROVE
Creating flexiblelivingworking
spaces is atrend in homerenovation at
present.
As prices riseand budgets shrink,
manyrenovatorsare opting forflexible
floor plans thatcan be adapted to
ongoingchanges in theirfamily’s living
circumstances.
Workingfrom home became areality
for manyfamilies during Covid and
now manyare embracing the workfromhome
hybridmodelfor the
future.
Withcarefulplanningand dualpurposedé
cor,living spaces can be
reformatted intoefficient, shared,
multipurpose areas.
Insteadoffilling aspareroomwith a
bed usedevery once in awhile, think of
other optionsfor thespace.
Acapableand selfregulating blowup
double bed canbeused, as and
whenneeded, thenstored when not.
Thisopens up thespareroom,asa
dualpurposeworkspace or guest
bedroom.
It’salot morecreativeuse of the
space thanconsigning the kitchen
table to becoming aworkhoursonly
officespace and havingtorelocate it
every eveningfor meals.
Thisspace reallocationallows
renovators to embracemanycreative
solutions for optimisingtheir openplanspaces,
suchasspare rooms or
internally accessed garages.
Many newbuilds have insulated
theirgaragedoorsand roofs,and
addedcarpets, an area of thehouse
usually under insulated.
This allows theirgaragespacetobe
used as anew office, hobby room or
children’splayorstudy space.
Many owners see thisnew space as
somewhere to puttheircomputersand
accessories as it allows them to free up
valuable livingroomorbedroom
space.
Asoundabsorbingroller screencan
open up or divide aroomtoallow
several computerstoberun
concurrently, without the other
overlooking what oneisdoing or
listening to.
Then comes theissueofcreating a
workableoffice space in an area
previously defined as abedroom or
garage. Whileyour garage may have
extraplugsinit, abedroomusually
only offers two to three at most power
sockets.
Talk to your local home electrician
aboutinstalling extra plugs, especially
ones withUSB chargingports, rather
than just addingmultipower plug
boards.
Ideally,yournew homeofficeshould
be comfortable,functional, and
efficient, butnot claustrophobic.
While you consider installing extra
storage andshelving, be creative with
room and curtaincolours. Remember
theroom has to work for two purposes,
so don’t overfill it.
B+LNZ calling on farmers for groundbreaking research
Beef +Lamb New Zealand (B+LNZ) is
calling on farmers to collectpoo as part of
agroundbreaking FacialEczema research
project.
The threeyearstudy will helpB+LNZ
understand how widespread Facial
Eczema is in New Zealand.
It willalso help fill gaps in our
understanding of its prevalence and
whetherawarming climate is having an
effect on its distribution. The disease,
associated with atoxinproducing fungus,
affectspasture grazing livestock and there
is no cure.
The toxin can causepermanentliver
damage resulting in photosensitivity and
sunburn. If the animal survives, its
production will be limited for life.
B+LNZ’s EconomicService estimates
the annual cost of Facial Eczematothe
New Zealandsheep, beef, dairy and deer
sectors to be around$332m.
B+LNZSector Science Strategy
Manager Suzi Keeling says thosewho
volunteer to take partinthe research will
be playing an integral role in shaping
future tools and solutions for Facial
Eczema management.
Atotal of 350 farmers, 22 fromeach of
the 16 regions round New Zealandare
needed to collect samplesform October to
May each year for three years.
‘‘We wantsamples collected acrossNew
Zealand regardless of whether farms have
experienced any FacialEczema in the
past. B+LNZ willprovide instructions,
sampling kits and cover the costs to
couriersamplestothe laboratory.’’
Those taking part in the study will
collect16samples, roughly every two
weeks, from their mob of sheep each year.
Ms Keeling says the samples need to be
taken form the same mob of sheep
throughout the season, but adifferent mob
can be used each year.
‘‘It’s as simple as taking awalkina
paddock. Thereisnoneed to yard the
animals. Just scoopup10individual fresh
samples fromthe ground,’’ she says.
‘‘Inreturn for the samples, B+LNZ will
provide faecal spore count results as soon
as lab testing is completed, access to a
monthlyupdatedmap showing spore
counts aroundthe country, and aPrezzy
Cardatthe end of the season if you are
From speedway to horse power and back
By JOHN COSGROVE
Aformerspeedwaynational champion is
looking forward to returning to
competitive racing at WoodfordGlen this
year.
West Eyretonbased speedway driver
AllanHaigh says he is keen to get back
behind the wheel racing modified race
cars at Woodford Glen, after many years
away from the sport and taking up
Endurance horseriding.
‘‘I took abreak in 2008 to build up my
lightengineering business and spend time
with my family,asracingsprint cars
seriously is very expensive and timeconsuming,’’
he says.
‘‘My daughters became interested in
endurance horse riding, and so did I.’’
Allaneventuallyachievedatwostar
international qualification in the sport,
competing in several 120kmand 160km
long endurance rides.
Allanstarted in speedway at Waikaraka
Park Speedway in Auckland, in 1983 at age
15.
He raced MiniSaloons, Modifieds and
also Sprintcars.
He held the 2NZ plateduringthe
20052006 season and went one better,
earning the coveted 1NZ plateinthe
20062007 season.
‘‘After acoupleofyearsofjustmaking
up numbers,Imanaged to put a
competitive car together, and it all finally
came together for those years.’’
He sold his car to LukeKeegan in 2008,
and kept in touch withthe sport,
mentoringLuke.
‘‘I helped him withhis setup and other
things as Ifound it hardtowalk away from
the sport.’’
In 2020Allanand his family moved to
West Eyretonsotheir daughters could
ride.
Now Allan’s youngest daughter Becky
(18) is dabbling in motorsport.
‘‘She was oblivioustowhat Ihad
achieved all thoseyears ago because she
was so young then.
‘‘But when we went to ameetinga
couple of seasons ago, she couldn’t believe
how everyone knew me, and then she
wanted to knowmore aboutwhat herdad
had done.’’
Allan saysBecky tried her hand at ministock
racinglast seasonasanintroduction
to the sport.
In 2021, he bought amodified race car
and started in the odd race meeting,
earningsome goodresults.
‘‘Covid, engine problems and moving
down here put racingonthe back burner
for awhile, but Iwantedtogoracing
again.’’
The car now sits in parts in Allan’s
workshop as he prepares it for the coming
season.
He saysheisexcitedbyhow quick the
car is going.
‘‘There are somesuspension mods to do
and apart fixedinthe engine and it can go
faster.
‘‘I’m happy with what I’ve achieved
since Icame to Woodford Glen, so this
season Ihopetobeupnear the topagain.’’
He says Woodford Glen and other South
Island tracks are challenging to drive on,
and he will have to adapt his driving style
to get usedtothem.
Woodford Glen promoter Steve Lennon
says theyhave planned a‘‘massive
summer’’ for fans, with two NZ Grand Prix,
and five South Island Championships on
top of all theirusualracemeetings.
‘‘We havegonefrom16race nights to 18
this season, with many top Canterburyand
nationaldrivers coming down here to
race.’’

Acentury of Southbridge Shield rugby
By PETER WILLIAMS
For many years the Southbridge Shield
match, played each season between North
Canterbury and Ellesmere,has been the
pinnacle of the local rugby season.
This is particularly so for this year’s
edition which is beingplayed this
Saturday, September 2, because it is 100
yearssince the Shield was first played for.
Mr P. Delargy donated the Shield—
initially knownasthe Delargy Shield — in
1922 whenitwas awardedtoEllesmere.
But the firstwinner on the field was the
Ashburton County Rugby Sub Unionwho
won it in 1923.
This was to be Ashburton County’sonly
success, as in 1926Ashburton County
became aunioninits own right, the
forerunner of the Mid Canterbury Rugby
Union.
This madeitineligible to competefor
the Shield which is forcompetition
between subunions.
In 1932, Mr Delargy agreed to the Shield
beingrenamedthe Southbridge Shield.
Only six sub unions have wonitover the
100 years.Peninsula and Malvern both
won it twice. Peninsula had its moments of
gloryin1926 and 1929, while Malvern
triumphedin1934 and 1948. Hurunui won
it on 16 occasions between 1930and 1980.
Since1988 when the Hurunui Sub
Unionamalgamatedwith North
Canterbury, therehave only been thetwo
sub unions.
This has served to makethe competition
between North Canterbury and Ellesmere
even more intense.Todate Ellesmerehas
won the Shield 32 times, while North
Canterbury has enjoyed the winning
feeling 39 times.
The holderhas the right to hostthe
matcheach season, and North Canterbury,
the currentholders, prevailed 130 at
Nth Canty the victor over Otago Country
By LINDSAY KERR
The NorthCanterbury seniorrugby
side overcame ahalf time deficit to
beat Otago Country 3423 in its clash
at the LoburnDomain on Saturday.
The result continued an unbeaten
2023 programmeand served as an
idealbuildupasitpreparestoface
Ellesmerethis weekend in the
annual SouthbridgeShieldfixture.
With perfect overhead and ground
conditions, it dominated the opening
exchanges, and after 10 minutes
hooker Kafu Masiutata scored atry
from alineout near the Otago line.
As North Canterbury sought to
increase the momentum, errors
begantocreep in.
This allowed the visitors to gain
more ball and territory. Amisdirected
pass in the North
Canterbury back line, ultimately
resulted in an intercept try.
Apenalty for Otagofollowed and
then five minutes before the break, it
scored againafterNorth Canterbury
lost the ball whenattacking.
Otagoscored again following a
wellexecuted 80 metredash down
the touch linetry.
With half time nearing, North
Canterbury attacked, and from aline
out nearthe Otago line,Ashley’sJosh
Duckworth barged over to score.The
home team went to the break behind
1417.
Otagoscored first withapenalty
moments into the second half,before
NorthCanterbury regained adegree
of control. Apenaltywas followed by
awell executed try from fullback
Kyovei Yamasawatoput it back in
front.
Another penaltyfollowed for
Otago, but thatwas its finalscoring.
ANorth Canterbury penalty
followed, and five minutes before full
time winger SejunKawasaki scored
in the cornertoeffectively put the
game out of reach.
Saracen’s half back Yuta Takagi
againdemonstrated his nimbleness
and bullet like passing credentials
behind scrums and mauls,and his
club mate and captain Josh Maynard
led by example from number eight.
Glenmark centre Matt Jensens
tackling was afeature of the
defensive play and lock Jack Regan,
and hooker Kafu Masitutata,
