Cr Paul Williams questioned why theconsultation was being targetedataffected residents and not at all Rangiora residents. Ms McBride saidthe route had alreadybeenconsulted on last year, as part of the walking and cyclingnetworkplan,which was adoptedbythe council in October. ‘‘Thisisgettingintothe detail of whatthis is goingtolooklike, so we want to takeittothe residents so they can seewhat it will look likeoutside theirhouse.’’ She saiddrop in sessions would be advertised and otherresidents could attend. Council staff will work with PAK’nSaveand other businesses to minimise disruption duringthe construction. The Waimakariri District Council joined the Mayors’ Taskforcefor Jobs programme in March on asix month trial, with atarget of placing 14 young people in sustainable employment. Since thenmorethan 20 young people have either been placedinjobs or ‘‘are empowered withthe removal of barriers’’ to help gain employment, community team manager Tessa Sturley said. Speaking at last week’s community and recreation committeemeeting,MsSturley said around50young people were connected with the programme, which has been given atwo yearextension. ‘‘We are getting some really good resultswith young people being placed in sustainable employment. ‘‘But the real highlight is creating work readiness opportunities, gaining confidence, learning to drive and thegeneral skill development we are seeing among theseyoung people.’’ Committeechairperson Cr PhilipRedmondand Mayor Dan Gordonpraisedthe Youth employment ...
