Ring in meter box returned to finder
The mystery of aring found in the old
Culverdenpostal exchange remains
unsolved.
Constable Damian Schuurman of
Culverden, says he has just informed the
finder that he was unable to identify an
owner for the small diamond ring.
The ring was found tucked away in an
old meter box, in the former Culverden
Post Office, and its discovery prompteda
whodunit investigation in the town.
Social media and local residents failed to
turn up any clues. Police had it
examined by aspecialist who found no
unique identifiers.
‘‘I followed up with acouple of leads
that came through from the Facebook
and newspaper article,but all were
unsuccessful,’’ ConstableSchuurman
says.
The finder, an employeeofalocal
garage, found the old tatty ring box
secreted in behind the switchboard and
cables.
It was coveredindust and looked like
it had been there for decades. Removing
it and dusting it off, he discovered it
contained agold ring covered in jewels,
and passed it on to the Police.
‘‘Sadly we shall neverknow who the
owner of the ring was, or the story behind
it, so Isoshall be returning it to the
finder,’’ says Constable Schuurman.
