Chinese Language Lecturer<br />

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Washington<br />
University in St. Louis seeks to hire a fulltime Lecturer on the<br />
teaching track in Chinese language starting in August 2024 for the<br />
2024-2025 academic year. Responsibilities include teaching or coteaching<br />
all levels of Chinese language, working cooperatively with<br />
other teaching staff, applying new technology and developing<br />
teaching materials, and organizing and participating in the language<br />
and cultural activities. This role requires duties equivalent to a fulltime<br />
teaching load, which may include a combination of teaching and<br />
other departmental service and advising as appropriate.<br />
Initial appointments at the rank of lecturer are renewed on an annual<br />
basis, and reappointment is contingent upon a successful annual<br />
evaluation and review. Teaching track faculty will not be evaluated<br />
on or expected to engage in research or scholarship as part of their<br />
appointment.<br />
Applicant Qualifications:<br />
Applicants must have a minimum of an M.A., with strong preference<br />
for a Ph.D., in Chinese linguistics, language pedagogy, secondlanguage<br />
acquisition, Chinese literature and culture, or a related field<br />
by the time of appointment. Requirements include native or nearnative<br />
proficiency in Chinese and English, minimum of one year<br />
college-level language teaching experience, and evidence of<br />
commitment to college language education. Applicants should be<br />
able to teach or co-teach all levels of modern Chinese language, as<br />
well as develop teaching materials for our language curriculum.<br />
