MEETING
OF THE
MINDS
Where is the
industry headed?
Three detailing
experts weigh in …
PART 2
By Debra Gorgos, Editor
debrag@autodetailingnews.com
At the end of 2022, I was awarded the
opportunity to interview industry experts
Renny Doyle, owner of Detailing Success
and founder of The Detail Mafia; Justin
Labato, owner of JL's Showroom Detailing,
Inc., Director of Training for Autogeek.com
and Lead Global Consultant
for Buff and Shine Mfg; and Jason Rose,
Global Director of Training for Rupes
USA. These three men know what they’re
talking about. From what they’ve noticed
in person, to what they have heard from
others, if you want insight into the industry,
they are the ones to talk to. We talked
for over an hour about current trends and
what the future holds for professional detailers.
Part 1 of the transcript appeared
in the Spring issue of Auto Detailing
News. Here is Part 2. And, because all of
it could not fit in this issue, the rest of the
roundtable discussion can be found on
ProDetailerForum.com under the thread
title: General Management.
seeing a huge trend in not just window
tint but also in film, as in paint protection
film, because it complements the approach
that detailer are trying to preserve
paint, and it gives them an edge because
they're able to preserve it with a film versus
a coating that has a lot more durability,
impact and other features that coatings
cannot achieve. And then, also on the
business side, it's giving a projection of
revenue that they weren't seeing before,
although they were doing very well with
ceramic coatings. The paint protection
film category is hugely profitable …But
there’s also a cost that comes with it. Film
is not cheap, the labor of it's not cheap
and the learning curve is a pain because it
takes about a year before you go through
a lot of material that is wasted and you
