Principles of Building Studies and Design
Building typology is the study of how architecture
comes together. It is the study of collected
information on buildings, but also of seeing and
understanding interrelationships and principles
of order. In the natural sciences classification – or
taxonomy – was a first step toward understanding
how natural processes take place. In architecture,
building types are conventionally classified
according to their uses in order to be subject to
exemplary study. The lectures´ chronologies trace
the continuous evolution of important types from
their origins until the present. The lectures are
supplemented by a series of exercises.
