Semester program Summer term 2023

The semester program booklet is published every semester at the beginning of the lecture period. In addition to an excerpt from the KIT course catalog with the courses relevant to the degree programs of the Faculty of Architecture, the program booklet contains further information on dates in the respective semester, class schedules, exam registrations, information on the faculty's facilities, and excerpts from the study and examination regulations.

Bachelor Courses Architecture 42<br />

as well as the handling of digital images<br />

and a consolidation in picture editing using Adobe<br />

Photoshop. The second part focuses on the draft<br />

of a distinct photographic work on a given topic in<br />

the form of a seminar. It starts with an analysis<br />

of a photographic position presented as a paper.<br />

Subsequent is an exhibition visit, which focuses<br />

on the use of different media in the output and the<br />

presentation of photography. After a photographic<br />

exercise, the process of elaborating a personal interpretation<br />

of the seminar topic begins, starting<br />

with the brainstorming, continuous corrections<br />

and the final presentation of the photographic<br />

work in a potential exhibition context.<br />

Construction Internship<br />

In the Key Qualifications module, a construction<br />

internship in the main construction trade amounting<br />

to 120 hours working time (SPO 2016: 3 weeks<br />

fulltime/ 4 LP, SPO 2021: 2 weeks full-time/ 3 LP)<br />

can also be credited. For the recognition an internship<br />

report of at least 3 pages has to be prepared<br />

and has to be submitted to the Dean‘s Office of<br />

Studies of the KIT-Department of Architecture<br />

with a certificate of the company about content<br />

and working hours of the internship.<br />

Seminar week: Shape Grammar<br />

Shape Grammars are rule-based instructions.<br />

On the one hand, they enable the description and<br />

analysis of spatial relations and conditions. In<br />

addition, they also form the basis for generative<br />

spatial processes. In the seminar we will take<br />

different existing approaches to Shape Grammars<br />

and project them onto selected canonical floor<br />

plans. Among other things, we will address the<br />

question of whether shape grammar can reveal<br />

unifying structural principles behind the apparent<br />

heterogeneity of different apartment floor plans,<br />

and which shape grammar is best suited to make<br />

apartment floor plans structurally descriptive.<br />

Seminar Week: Making a Book<br />

Books about architecture have as large and<br />

rich a history as architecture itself. The way<br />

these books are made, structured, designed, and<br />

ultimately studied has changed over time. The<br />

Chair of Building Typology is planning to publish<br />

a book on the potential of architectural types. As<br />

early as the winter semester of 2022/23, students<br />

began to analyze and discuss exemplary study<br />

projects developed at our department as part of a<br />

seminar. Another task was to provide answers to
