Iconic Kaiapoi fun run and walk for all
By ROBYN BRISTOW
Serious runners, and those not so serious,
will all be able to test their fitness at the
annual Kaiapoi Fun Run and Walk on
Sunday, March 10.
The everpopular event starts at Murphy
Park by the Kaiapoi Borough School and
follows the picturesque Kaiapoi River
through the centre of Kaiapoi up to the
Silverstream Village, and back again,
finishing at the Kaiapoi Borough School.
The 10km and 5km courses are also
open to walkers young and old who want to
keep their fitness up.
The course is suitable for prams and
strollers if you want to bring your young
ones along, but not scooters and bikes.
The 10km walkers start at 8.30am, with a
9am start for the 5km walk/run, and the
10km run.
The 10km course is run on aunique
course very different from most around
the district.
It is 99 percent off road, so the
competitors can relax and enjoy the run/
walk alongside the Kaiapoi River without
having to worry about traffic.
For the not so serious runners there is a
5km course that follows the same route up
to the start of Lineside Road on the south
side of the river, and then returns to finish
at Kaiapoi Borough School.
The first three men, and the first three
women running the 10km or 5km courses
will receive certificates to acknowledge
their times on the day.
All competitors who attend the
prizegiving are eligible for spot prizes
which have been donated by local
businesses.
The prizegiving will begin once all
competitors are back at Kaiapoi Borough
School.
The Kaiapoi Fun Run Committee would
like to thank All Together Kaiapoi, Wilson
Traffic Management, Environment
Canterbury, the Waimakariri District
Council, Kaiapoi New World, and the
many volunteers in Kaiapoi and
Silverstream, who all contribute to making
the event avery successful one.
