comfortable seating make the cave
both mesmerizing and inviting. A
glance up at the ceiling reveals
a night sky, encouraging
those participating in
the dry salt therapy to
sink a little deeper
into their seats, take
a deep breath, and
relax. The dry salt
aerosol helps address
respiratory concerns,
inflammation, skin
conditions, and fatigue.
Although many clients
spend time in the salt cave to
address physical ailments, others
come for the added mental health
benefit. Franklin has programmed events
inside the salt cave including yoga, meditation,
hypnosis, and singing bowl sound therapy.
AN ACTIVE SALT CAVE
FOR EVERYONE
When asked how her wellness services impact the
lives of her customers, Franklin responded with a big
smile. “We like to get involved in the community and
we go above and beyond so everybody can experience
how wonderful this place is,” said Franklin. She then went
on to describe her passion for making sure the space is
accommodating for everyone. Nursing homes bring residents
in wheelchairs. A local child psychiatrist has used the space to
treat clients who are sensory sensitive. “It’s so good for children,
especially if a child has any type of skin allergies like eczema or
psoriasis. We put some toys in there for them to play for a half hour
or 45 minutes, depending on their age. We’ve had a lot of great
feedback with that,” reflected Franklin.

Franklin went on to describe what
almost sounded like medical
breakthroughs. A woman with
a horrible ear infection on
three antibiotics felt her ear
loosen and could hear again.
A mechanic who couldn’t
open his hand for almost two
years exited his session in
tears while flexing his hand.
“When I hear stories like that
from my customers, I just know
I’m supposed to be here,” said
Franklin warmly.
EXPANDING SERVICES
FOR FUTURE GROWTH
What started with just a salt cave has now
grown into a one-stop wellness shop in Chesterton,
Indiana. In addition to dry salt therapy, Evexia offers services like
Ionic foot detox, full-spectrum infrared sauna, energy therapy,
and a large variety of spa services including massage, facials,
and Ecofin hand or foot wax treatments. More recently, they have
added dermaplaning, electrolysis, eyebrow and eyelash tinting and
eyelash curling to their list of services. Both individuals and groups
are encouraged to take advantage of the full range of services, like
bridal parties or businesses that want to offer their employees a
corporate wellness day.
Franklin concluded the interview with a call to action. “I don’t
think the average person realizes that you have to take time
for yourself. You have to schedule it in. If you don’t take care of
yourself, who else is going to do it?” If you’re curious about salt
therapy, Evexia offers the service for a reduced price on Wellness
Wednesdays and Happy Hour Fridays. What was once only
available in the salt caves of Poland can now be experienced
right here in northwest Indiana.
