Lakeshore Public
Media is proud to
announce it has completed
the installation of a new
High Definition television
antenna that will ensure a
stronger and more reliable
Lakeshore PBS broadcast for
viewers across Northwest
Indiana and Chicagoland.
This new antenna is designed
to meet the latest overthe-air
broadcast standard
– ATSC 3.0 – and will also
add substantial vertical
polarization to improve
indoor reception of both 1.0
and 3.0 broadcast services.
Purdue University
Northwest’s (PNW)
department of Psychology
was recently awarded a fiveyear,
$3 million grant from
the U.S. Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA)
to partner with pediatric
healthcare clinics in Lake,
Porter, and La Porte counties
to support mental health
services and interventions
for child traumatic stress.
The project, Northwest
Indiana Identification and
Management of Pediatric
Experiences of Trauma and
Underlying Stress (NWI
IMPETUS) was selected as
part of the National Child
Traumatic Stress Initiative to
implement routine screenings
and brief in-office and
group interventions for child
traumatic stress, as well as
increase access to longerterm
services by training
large cohorts of local mental
health providers in specific
evidence-based interventions
for child trauma.

Surf Internet announced
the connection of the first
customers to their fiber-optic
network in the northwest
Indiana communities of
Lake Village and Kouts.
To celebrate the two
communities going live
with high-speed internet,
Surf leadership paid a visit
to their newest customers,
congratulating them on
being the first to enjoy
advanced connectivity.
“Northwest Indiana is a
great success story,” said
Surf CEO Gene Crusie.
“With so many small
communities in the area, we
were able to work hand-inhand
with local leadership
to bring in grant money
along with our own private
funding. Together, we’re
helping those who would
truly be unreachable without
a significant capital outlay.
These residents are finally
getting high-speed access to
the internet they deserve.”
