BEAUTY AND BEYOND | PERSONAL CARE SERVICES | LINDSAY MUNDEN AESTHETIC BEAUTY LOUNGE INJECTING KNOWLEDGE, Creating Beauty AESTHETICS MEETS EXPERTISE AND CLIENT-CENTRIC CARE By Katie Bieber Lindsay Munden, DNP, APRN, FNP- BC, began her career as a registered nurse working in pediatrics at Franciscan in Crown Point. While continuing her education at Valparaiso University to become a nurse practitioner, she shadowed a plastic surgeon who would frequent her pediatric unit. She would eventually end up working at his private practice for two years, where she learned how to do cosmetic injectable treatments, like Botox and fillers. During that time, she completed her doctorate at Valparaiso University. Munden was quickly recruited to teach at VU and has served as Professor of Nursing in the Nurse Practitioner program for the past 9 years. A seasoned member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the International Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Nurses, Munden has not only excelled in her professional background but has also ventured into the entrepreneurial realm. Her passion for safe and evidencebased care led to the creation of the Lindsay Munden Aesthetic Beauty Lounge. BUILDING BEAUTY BRICK BY BRICK Over the last 8 years, Munden has provided aesthetic medical treatments at State of Mind Salon and Spa in Crown Point. “It gave me great exposure to build up my clientele,” said Munden. However, after her family relocated to Valparaiso, Munden decided it was time for her own brick-and-mortar space. Nestled just off Highway 30, the lounge is cozy and gorgeously designed. Blending the essence of a medical center with the tranquility of a day spa, it embodies the unique fusion that defines a medical spa experience. Munden offers a wide range of nonsurgical enhancements that cater to diverse aesthetic needs. From anti-aging solutions and laser treatments to addressing hyperpigmentation and promoting collagen stimulation, the services are a testament to her dedication to holistic care. Munden describes an initial aesthetic consultation. “Our goal is to enhance patients’ natural beauty, but it’s still medicine. So we collect 20 WINTER <strong>2024</strong> |
a medical history, then do a facial assessment. We focus on what the patient is trying to improve or enhance, and we come up with a treatment plan together.” LASTING RESULTS & MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS The impact of Munden’s work goes beyond surface-level transformations; it reaches into the lives of her clients, instilling confidence and inner radiance. By prioritizing safe and evidence-based practices, Munden ensures that her clients not only look their best but also feel their best. “It helps with mental health, too. They’re doing studies right now about depression and body dysmorphic disorders. [Our treatments] help clients feel better about themselves,” said Munden. Munden went on to describe how she has helped clients with other issues, like pain management. “Patients come in and have spent thousands of dollars on oral appliances for their teeth grinding and TMJ with no relief. To be able to treat them with Botox and have them call me the next day and say their pain's a zero for the first time in a year. That's been really fulfilling too, to help people that have more of a medical need than cosmetic,” reflected Munden. Appointments with Munden are never less than 30 minutes, proof of her unwavering commitment to quality patient care and satisfaction. Once the patient leaves, they are often not without Munden’s personal cell phone number. “They know they can call us for anything. They send me pictures or videos of them making expressions to show me their results. I love waking up to those messages, it’s very gratifying,” said Munden with a warm smile. This personalized approach reflects Munden's genuine concern for her patients, fostering a lasting connection that transcends the boundaries of a typical medical interaction. COMMUNITY OVER COMPETITION As she looks toward the future, Munden is dedicated to staying abreast of emerging trends and advancements in aesthetics, emphasizing the critical role education plays in maintaining industry standards. Currently in the works is the establishment of the Lindsay Munden Aesthetic Institute. To advance aesthetics in the region, she hopes to provide Continuing Medical Education (CME) approved courses tailored for both novice and advanced injectors or healthcare providers looking to enter the aesthetics field. Her commitment to ensuring public safety and building a trustworthy community of injectors is evident in her belief that everyone should have the proper training. “Community over competition is important in this industry,” concluded Munden.
