AlUla Design Residency, ran from October<br />

2023 to February <strong>2024</strong>, with five designers<br />

tak<strong>in</strong>g part:<br />

The Design Residency was a five-month<br />

programme <strong>in</strong> AlUla that brouhgt toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

designers and experts on-site. Participants,<br />

ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong>dividuals or collectives, worked<br />

across multiple discipl<strong>in</strong>es such as <strong>in</strong>frastructure<br />

development and architectural design,<br />

explor<strong>in</strong>g public realm <strong>in</strong>terventions<br />

and urban furniture, susta<strong>in</strong>ability and local<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g materials. Their f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs, pieces<br />

and prototypes were showcased <strong>in</strong> an exhibition<br />

at <strong>the</strong> Arts Festival <strong>in</strong> February <strong>2024</strong>.<br />

Arts, Landscap<strong>in</strong>g, Botany and Agriculture<br />

Residency, runs from January <strong>2024</strong> to<br />

May <strong>2024</strong>, with six artists tak<strong>in</strong>g part:<br />

This residency will ga<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong>ternationally<br />

renowned artists, engag<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> research at<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>tersection of art, landscap<strong>in</strong>g, botany,<br />

and agriculture. The residency serves as <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>itial foundation for highlight<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> future<br />

contemporary art museum <strong>in</strong> AlUla. It will enable<br />

creatives to <strong>in</strong>itiate research for public<br />

art commissions, tied to <strong>the</strong> museum’s gardens.<br />

It will celebrate <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>tricate tapestry of<br />

AlUla’s botanical diversity; unveil<strong>in</strong>g nature’s<br />

canvas.<br />

PROGRAMMES:<br />

AlUla Visual Art Residency, runs from October<br />

2023 to February <strong>2024</strong>, with seven<br />

artists tak<strong>in</strong>g part:<br />

Bridg<strong>in</strong>g art, science and local narratives,<br />

this residency spotlights a unique collaboration<br />

between artists and on-site scientific<br />

experts, as well as representatives of <strong>the</strong> local<br />

community. It focuses on research while<br />

offer<strong>in</strong>g production opportunities, aim<strong>in</strong>g<br />

to draw <strong>in</strong>spiration from <strong>the</strong> area’s ancient<br />

heritage and development; contemplat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

issues such as <strong>in</strong>terspecies connections,<br />

human vs. non-human, local folklore and<br />

tale. Artists’ processes and outcomes will be<br />

showcased <strong>in</strong> an exhibition at <strong>the</strong> Arts Festival<br />

<strong>in</strong> February <strong>2024</strong>.<br />
