André Butzer, known for his iconic characters and vibrant<br />
language, stands at <strong>the</strong> forefront of pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong>spired by Matisse.<br />
His work, filled with deliberate brushstrokes, reflects<br />
lived experiences. Characters like <strong>the</strong> Friedens-Siemens<br />
and <strong>the</strong> Wanderer, rem<strong>in</strong>iscent of “Disney figures pa<strong>in</strong>ted<br />
by Munch,” emerge from bright backgrounds. Butzer’s art,<br />
guided by a “bra<strong>in</strong>less vision of dest<strong>in</strong>y,” serves as an antidote<br />
to societal divisions, unit<strong>in</strong>g opposites and speak<strong>in</strong>g to<br />
all. Rooted <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>trospection and <strong>in</strong>vestigation, his pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs<br />
explore basic humanity and its connection to art history, embody<strong>in</strong>g<br />
a child-like <strong>in</strong>nocence <strong>in</strong>tertw<strong>in</strong>ed with millennia of<br />

is a rose is a rose is a rose,” explores <strong>the</strong>mes of poetry,<br />
migration, rebellion, and remembrance through pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
<strong>in</strong>stallation, video, sound, and performance. Draw<strong>in</strong>g on<br />
autobiographical symbols and popular culture, <strong>the</strong> exhibition<br />
offers an immersive experience that reframes current<br />
