HISTORIC NEIGHBOURHOOD<br />

Al Sh<strong>in</strong>dagha Historic Neighbourhood is currently radiat<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>the</strong> spirit of <strong>in</strong>novation and artistic flair as it<br />

plays host to <strong>the</strong> 12th edition of <strong>the</strong> Sikka Art and Design Festival. Under <strong>the</strong> esteemed patronage of Her Highness<br />

Sheikha Latifa b<strong>in</strong>t Mohammed b<strong>in</strong> Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority<br />

and Member of <strong>the</strong> Dubai Council, this festival serves as a beacon for creativity, showcas<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> talents of over<br />

500 artists from <strong>the</strong> UAE, GCC, and around <strong>the</strong> world. Runn<strong>in</strong>g until <strong>March</strong> 3, <strong>the</strong> festival stands as a testament<br />

to Dubai’s cultural aspirations, aim<strong>in</strong>g to establish itself as a global hub for creativity and talent.<br />

Themed ‘New Creativity, Same Path’,<br />

this year’s edition of <strong>the</strong> festival<br />

boasts eight captivat<strong>in</strong>g murals,<br />

each bear<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> dist<strong>in</strong>ct mark of its<br />

creator’s vision and reflect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> essence of<br />

Dubai’s rich heritage and traditions. Among<br />

<strong>the</strong> notable murals is ‘The Door to Pearls’ by<br />

Emirati artist Duha Alhallami, symboliz<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

gateway to <strong>the</strong> appreciation of <strong>the</strong> country’s<br />

cultural roots. Similarly, ‘Joy Step’ by Emirati<br />

artists Maryam Rashid Alkaitoob and Manal<br />

B<strong>in</strong> Obood captures moments of joy and<br />

happ<strong>in</strong>ess, <strong>in</strong>vit<strong>in</strong>g viewers to revel <strong>in</strong> life’s<br />

simple pleasures.<br />

Syrian artist Noor Bahjat raises awareness<br />

about mar<strong>in</strong>e life with her mural ‘Fragile<br />

World’, while Emirati artist Nawal Arjumand’s<br />

‘Bloom <strong>in</strong>to Spr<strong>in</strong>g’ <strong>in</strong>vites festival visitors to<br />

participate <strong>in</strong> a pa<strong>in</strong>t-by-numbers activity <strong>in</strong>spired<br />

by <strong>the</strong> upcom<strong>in</strong>g spr<strong>in</strong>g camp at Al<br />

Jalila Cultural Centre for Children.<br />

O<strong>the</strong>r standout murals <strong>in</strong>clude ‘Taster’ by<br />

Algerian artist Set, ‘Between <strong>the</strong> L<strong>in</strong>es’ by<br />

Egyptian artist Rabab Tantawi and British<br />

artist F<strong>in</strong>k 22, and ‘Beyond <strong>the</strong> Horizon’ by<br />

British artist Myne and Yours, each offer<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

unique perspective on <strong>the</strong>mes of communication,<br />

hope, and personal growth.<br />

In addition to <strong>the</strong> murals, <strong>the</strong> festival<br />

showcases 10 outdoor <strong>in</strong>stallations that celebrate<br />

<strong>the</strong> historical significance of Dubai<br />

Creek and its role <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> emirate’s commercial<br />

heritage. Emirati artist Alza<strong>in</strong>a Lootah’s<br />

‘Shera’a’ captures <strong>the</strong> dynamic trade spirit of<br />

Dubai Creek, while Abdalla Almulla’s ‘Hues<br />

of Trade’ vividly portrays <strong>the</strong> bustl<strong>in</strong>g mercantile<br />

life along <strong>the</strong> Creek’s shores.<br />

Among <strong>the</strong> outdoor <strong>in</strong>stallations, ‘Sheryan<br />

Al Hayat’ by Dr. Afra Atiq offers an immersive<br />

experience <strong>in</strong>spired by poetry, while ‘The<br />

Sea of Float<strong>in</strong>g Dreams’ by Ch<strong>in</strong>ese artist<br />

Gary Yong and Malaysian artist Enforce One<br />

raises awareness about <strong>the</strong> importance of<br />

preserv<strong>in</strong>g coral reefs.<br />

From <strong>in</strong>novative architectural concepts<br />

to vibrant landscape designs, <strong>the</strong> Sikka Art<br />

and Design Festival transforms Al Sh<strong>in</strong>dagha<br />

Historic Neighbourhood <strong>in</strong>to a dynamic<br />

canvas, <strong>in</strong>vit<strong>in</strong>g visitors to explore <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>tersection<br />

of art, culture, and heritage. With<br />
