Aqua superPower continues to revolutionise the
yachting industry with the deployment of onboard
charging systems for electric tenders and toys

superPower is the first company to design and
install charging facilities onboard a superyacht,
enabling both high powered and lower powered
DC charging of electric tenders. Through a
bespoke system architecture, Aqua superPower’s
onboard charging solution is characterised by
its flexibility, allowing yacht and superyacht
owners to opt for DC high-powered charging
both onboard the ship in the tender storage
area or externally alongside.
The new system provides two 30 kW charge
points within the garage and two 120 kW charge
points when the electric tenders are alongside the
mothership. This is complemented by landside
support from the Aqua network, offering a fully
connected back-office function and 24/7 customer
support.
One key feature of Aqua superPower’s system is
the adoption of the CCS protocol for connectors,
facilitating two-way communication between the
electric tender and the yacht. This connectivity
provides an additional layer of safety by allowing
real-time monitoring of crucial parameters such
as battery temperature, state of charge, and
other data through the boat’s dashboard. This
proactive approach ensures optimal performance
and safety during the charging process.
The system Aqua superPower delivered includes
a number of high-power waterside locations for
charging the electric tenders during high demand
periods and extended use. The system utilises a
novel power management system that allocates
the capacity to the location that demands it. It
can simultaneously charge the electric tenders
on different allocated waterside areas of the
mothership.
The tender garage, a perfect location for charging
while the yacht is underway or overnight, offers
convenience and efficiency. This approach aligns
with the diverse needs of yacht owners, catering
to activities such as watersports, VIP pickups,
grocery runs, and general yacht servicing.
Continuous advancements in electric propulsion
technology have played a pivotal role in making
electric tenders more powerful, reliable, and
efficient. Modern electric motors, coupled with
high-capacity batteries, now offer performance
levels that rival traditional fuel-powered vessels.
