SCHOOL OPEN DAYS
Papanui High School
Our School, Our Success, Our Responsibility
“Our aim is simple... to provide the best
education possible for every student.”
At Papanui High School positive
relationships are at the forefront of
what we do. Connecting through a
responsive local curriculum we provide
an opportunity for all students to learn
in a productive and future-focused
environment.
The opportunity to learn from an
innovative and broad curriculum is
critical to providing a pathway that meets
each student’s individual needs. Papanui
High School allows for a greater range
and flexibility in subject choice including
the utilization of the secondary/tertiary
interface. This reinforces the philosophy
underpinning personalised learning and is
strongly supported by understanding our
students’ interests, passions, talents, and
ultimately their career aspirations.
We understand that for effective
learning to take place, it has to be
implemented in such a way that students
will be highly engaged. The school
does this in a ‘forward thinking’ way by
creating learning environments that allow
our students to see value in what they do
and achieve. Papanui “PRIDE” is what
we represent, and we demonstrate this by
having young adults leave our school as
confident learners who have gained the
appropriate qualifications and social skills
to become valued contributing members
of society.
All that we do here is reinforced by
positive relationships, an ethos of caring,
cultural responsiveness, inclusion, and
high expectations. The school highly
values the connectedness between
curricular and co-curricular learning
and forming partnerships with our
wider school community. We have a
philosophical understanding that the
holistic development of the student is
critical to individual success.
The school is working hard to
consolidate recent initiatives to ensure
sustained and continuous improvement.
You are invited to view our website, school
charter, ERO report, and/or contact the
school for more information.
FOCUS ON HEALTH
Thursday April 18 2024 The Star 25
Natural support for
healthy joints
Joint issues will affect most of us at some
point. They can appear in any joint, such
as the neck, back, shoulders, elbows,
wrists, hands, hips, knees, ankles, and feet.
Cartilage is the protective surface
between moving bones that allows them
to move freely. It is constantly worn
away and needs to be rebuilt. This repair
process slows down for most of us as
we age. The result is that some joints do
not have enough cartilage, causing the
joint function to be less smooth. This
is the most common form of arthritis,
osteoarthritis, leading to inflammation,
pain, stiffness, and reduced joint mobility.
Joint pain can also be a factor in falls.
Generally, joints with the most use or
stress show problems first.
Many people seek pain relief from
their doctor. The usual prescription is
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
or NSAIDs, which offer pain relief but
do nothing to stop the progression of
arthritis.
According to the British Journal of
General Practice, NSAIDs are not
recommended for long-term use and
are responsible for 30% of hospital
admissions, mainly due to internal
bleeding, heart attack, stroke and renal
damage. Research shows that all NSAIDs
double the risk of hospitalization due to
heart failure.
Supporting the body with the proper
supplementary nutrients is beneficial in
helping joint health for many people.
A local Christchurch company, Kiwi
Natural Health or KNH, has produced an
advanced, high-potency formula called
“Joint Care Plus” to support healthy joint
function.
Inflammation of joints can cause
pain and slows the healing process.
Joint Care Plus contains turmeric,
ginger and black pepper to help reduce
inflammation and pain and enhance
digestion and absorption of nutrients.
The formula also contains nutrients that
have been researched to support joint
health, including boron, selenium, zinc,
manganese, proline and MSM, and the
highly researched glucosamine sulfatepotassium
chloride complex, as well as
chondroitin sulfate.
This comprehensive formula is in an
easy-to-swallow capsule. Due to the
number of nutrients in the formula,
taking two or three capsules once daily is
recommended to achieve the necessary
amount of each nutrient. A loading dose
of three capsules twice daily may be used
in severe cases.
