a delicious buffet dinner at the Waterfront Grille, a casual
waterfront dining restaurant. Following dinner we will board
the Lil’ Diamond II for a relaxing cruise on the historic Erie
Canal, traveling through a lock. Travel back in time as your
Captain recounts the history and legends of the canal. As we
gently glide through the waterway enjoy the sights and sounds
of the area, and indulge your spirit of adventure as we are
raised and lowered 20 feet inside a lock. Bring your camera
and field glasses to capture the many photo opportunities and to
view the native wildlife and birds along the canal. You might
just see an eagle! After our cruise you will have some leisure
time on your own for browsing and shopping at Gems Along
the Mohawk. Gems Along the Mohawk is the official Mohawk
Valley Visitor’s Center featuring 70 specialty shops showcasing
the manufacturing legacy and products of the Mohawk Valley
and Central New York. (D)
Day 2: After breakfast we depart for a day of sightseeing.
We begin at the Herkimer Diamond Mines. Herkimer
Diamonds are beautiful double terminated quartz crystals found
in Herkimer, New York. Found in the mine, these crystals are
magnificent works of nature which appear to have been precision
cut by man. Explore the museum’s extensive collection of
mineral specimens, rare rock crystals and more before heading
into the surface mine to prospect. Keep all crystals you find!
Next we will enjoy a deli lunch at the Fly Creek Cider Mill &
Orchard, a family owned turn-of-the-century water-powered
mill. After lunch browse through two floors of their country
mill shop and bakery while sampling a wide variety of tasty
treats. The next stop of the day will be a visit to the National
Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, a fitting monument to
America’s national pastime. The Hall of Fame is every fan’s
“Field of Dreams” with its stories, legends, and magic to be
passed on from generation to generation. Before checking into
our hotel for the night, we conclude our day with a delicious
BBQ dinner at “Brooks Roost”, a log cabin type banquet
facility which overlooks one of the most scenic valleys in the
area. (B, L, D)
Day 3: After breakfast we depart for a scenic ride thru
the Catskill Mountains to Arkville, New York. Upon our
arrival we will ride and dine on a luxurious train through
New York’s Catskill Mountains. The Rip Van Winkle Flyer
on the Delaware and Ulster Railroad is a scenic train ride
through New York’s legendary Catskill Mountains. Our daytime
luncheon train offers a leisurely rail cruise through one
of America’s most picturesque mountain ranges. Desirable
amenities abound on this climate-controlled, post-war,
Steamliner train. Lovingly refurbished, it represents the finest
group of historic train cars on the East Coast of the United
States. Enjoy a delicious first class luncheon (china, linen and
big band sounds) while traveling the rails through the legendary
Catskill Mountains. Later we depart for home with many fond
