Today we travel to the unofficial “Mural Capital of the<br />

World,” Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Upon our arrival at the<br />

Independence Visitor Center we meet our step-on guide,<br />

and depart for an educational, informative, entertaining<br />

and visually tour. Learn the history behind each mural from<br />

our experienced tour guide as we make our way through<br />

Philadelphia’s diverse neighborhoods. You will be amazed and<br />

moved by the vision and energy of imagery presented in the<br />

murals which make up this unique collection of public works<br />

of art. Photo opportunities will be allowed if the traffic and<br />

weather conditions permit. Following our tour, you can relax<br />

and enjoy the fellowship of friends old and new while dining<br />

on a delicious lunch at the Moshulu. The largest four-mast<br />

sailing ship in the world, the Moshulu has been converted into a<br />

floating restaurant permanently docked at Philadelphia’s Penn’s<br />

Southern Seacoast Connecticut<br />

Day 1: Welcome Aboard! Travel in comfort aboard our deluxe<br />

motor coach to the New England seacoast town of Mystic,<br />

Connecticut. Upon our arrival we will visit the exhibit “Titanic<br />

- 12,450 Feet Below” at the Mystic Aquarium and Institute<br />

for Exploration. Mystic Aquarium brings the Titanic’s<br />

timeless history to life with captivating imagery, breathtaking<br />

recreations, emotional soundscapes and thrilling entertainment!<br />

Next you can experience close encounters of the incredible kind<br />

at Mystic Aquarium. Whether you’re touching a ray, feeling the<br />

splash of a beluga whale, going beak-to-nose with a penguin<br />

or exploring the deep sea with the exhibits on display, you’ll<br />

be closer to ocean life than you ever thought possible! After<br />

checking into our accommodations for the next two nights at<br />

the Comfort Inn Mystic, we depart for a delicious dinner at a<br />

Day 2: After a hearty continental breakfast we meet our stepon<br />

guide, and depart for a tour of the Connecticut seacoast.<br />

En route to the USS Submarine Force Library and Museum<br />

we will hear the story of Benedict Arnold as we tour through<br />

Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park. The USS Nautilus<br />

was the world’s first nuclear powered vessel, and the first<br />

submarine to travel to the North Pole. We cross the Connecticut<br />

River into New London, Connecticut for a drive through of<br />

the United States Coast Guard Academy. After our tour,<br />

enjoy some leisure time at Olde Mistick Village which has<br />

the look and feel of a picturesque New England town, with<br />

small independent shops, boutiques and restaurants and more.<br />

Today’s tour wraps up with a 2 ½ hour train & boat excursion.<br />

First we board the Essex Steam Train for a ride through the<br />

picturesque countryside of the Connecticut River <strong>Valley</strong>. Next<br />

we enjoy a riverboat cruise on the Connecticut River where<br />

we will pass the hilltop castle built by actor William Gillette<br />

and the Goodspeed Opera House. Before returning to the hotel,<br />

we conclude our day with a delicious dinner at a restaurant that<br />

serves up great local flavors. (B, D)<br />

Day 3: After a hearty continental breakfast we will visit<br />

the Mystic Seaport Museum. The maritime museum is the<br />

nation’s largest and includes a re-creation of a 19th-century<br />

seafaring community. Here you can climb aboard a tall ship,<br />

visit period homes and shops, view the collections of marine<br />

art and artifacts, and enjoy demonstrations daily. After lunch<br />

on your own we depart for home with fond memories of our<br />

coastal New England get-away! (B)<br />
