FTO Refresher (Sokolove Model) TTT003R Jan. 9-10, 2012 Northbrook Police Department 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM Member Tuition: $100.00 Non-Member Tuition: $200.00 Limit: 2 per Dept. 68 Unless otherwise indicated, cancellations must be received by NEMRT 7 days prior to the beginning of a course in order to avoid being billed for that course. Exceptions will be noted where applicable. This two day course is specifically designed for experienced, previously trained, and/or certified Field Training Officers. This in-service training program will provide updates to the 2009 revised Daily Observation Report and the newly revised Standard Evaluation Guidelines. It will also provide transitional instruction on Breaking Routine from traditional numerically-anchored probationary law enforcement performance assessment to a behaviorally-anchored process emphasizing training and coaching for outstanding job performance. This updated instruction emphasizes the FTO's responsibilities to: - Examine and objectively document probationer job behaviors and actions utilizing totally revised standardized assessment guidelines, and - Analyze the probationer's training and performance needs and utilize the most appropriate instructional techniques for corrective action. Presentation will focus upon discussion as well as hands-on application of course materials in small group and individual student exercises. Course content includes: - Performance assessment components utilizng a non-numerical evaluation scale; - Utilization of the revised Standardized Evaluation Guidelines; - Legally and objectively documenting probationer performance; - Utilizing a variety of on-the-job instruction/coaching techniques; - Documenting the extent of training and coaching when CorrectiveAction is Necessary; - Objectively determining when the probationer is Not Responding to Training; and, - Executing the revised Self-Initiated Field Activity protocols with the Daily Training Plan. PLEASE NOTE: Students should be familiar with their Department's Field Training and Evaluation Process and bring a copy of the agency's current Probationary Officer/Deputy Manual and assessment forms to the class. Winter 2011-12 In-Service Course Catalog This two day course provides the latest methods to prevent, track, and eradicate gangs in the rural and suburban community. Recruitment of younger children, illict guns, narcotics and money will be addressed. Gang migration to the suburbs has been stimulated by a number of urban realities: Section 8 Housing teardowns, more effective enforcement actions by major cities (including Chicago), and long term federal wiretaps. Topics to be addressed include: - Community-wide gang suppression tactics - Effective street interviewing techniques - Courtroom testimony and case preparation - Identification of comprehensive prevention and interdiction resources - Extremist groups and causes Those attending will be provided with a 80 page resource document to assist them in adopting strategies to assist in mustering community resources. Instructors: Domenic Cappelluti, Certified Forensic Investigator (CFI), Waukegan Police Department, Detective, homicide investigator, and expert witness, assigned to the Lake County Major Case Task Force. Montague Hall, Waukegan Police Department, gang expert, U.S. Coast Guard, Tactical Law Enforcement Detachment, Miami, Florida, currently assigned to Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) Narcotics Group in Chicago. This course has been submitted for Terrorism Grant Funding by the Illinois Terrorism Task Force. If funded, tuition will be waived. At the completion of this one day program, students will possess the necessary information, research sources, and skills needed to serve as in-house Basic Handcuffing Instructors for their respective agencies. This will be accomplished through lecture, demonstration, and class participation. The program is for current, experienced in-house instructors who have an established background in teaching use of force and who have previously attended a formal Instructor Development program or are scheduled to do so in the near future. Seven different handcuffing methods will be examined and practiced. Course topics include: - Liability concerns - Understanding and teaching use of force concepts - Physical skills - Lesson/program planning and preparation - Written and performance testing considerations - Record keeping All participants should bring their handcuffs to class. This course has been submitted to the ILETSB for certification. If approved, it will be for certificate only, not for reimbursement.
