Winter 2011-12 In-Service Course Catalog
This course has been designed to familiarize students with common types of internet crime.
Students will learn how to locate areas of misuse and abuse and will examine six different
types of online crime, such as credit card fraud, scams, harassment, and sex crimes. Internet
crime prevention techniques will be taught that will support active internet investigations.
With these new skills, students will be able to incorporate their new knowledge into a
PowerPoint learning tool.
Topics to be covered include the following:
- Identifying incidents of internet misuse
- Identifying various victimization patterns via the computer
- The legal ramifications of internet use and applicable state and federal statutes that govern
computer use
- "Acceptable use" school policies and how they correlate to school, criminal, and legal
consequences.

This course will be taught by: Instructors with the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy.
This 16 hour program is designed to provide officers with additional methods for
interviewing and interrogating witnesses and suspects. It will review Miranda warnings and
custodial interrogations and emphasizes a number of principles, including:
- Interview preparation
- Construction of questions
- Timing and atmosphere
- Demeanor and behavioral analysis
- Verbal cues indicative of deception
