Awards<br />

Students nearing completion <strong>of</strong> their course<br />

Students nearing completion <strong>of</strong> their course may obtain a statement indicating those<br />

subjects passed and those subjects still required to complete their courses for a fee<br />

<strong>of</strong> $1.<br />

A student who has obtained all subjects except one for his diploma or degree, and<br />

has failed in that subject at the most recent rial examination, shall be entitled<br />

to make application for permission to sit for a special examination.? Candidates will<br />

use the same number as used for the final examinations. Application must be made<br />

to the Registrar within 10 calendar days <strong>of</strong> publication <strong>of</strong> the examination result<br />

in the subject.<br />

Any student who have been involved in a change <strong>of</strong> syllabus (e.g. from the 1960<br />

syllabus to the 1965 revised syllabus, or to the 1972 syllabus etc.) and who has<br />

not previously obtained a statement, would be wise to do so before starting the<br />

final semester.<br />

Applications for awards<br />

Students eligible to be admitted to a degree <strong>of</strong> the Victoria Institute <strong>of</strong> Colleges,<br />

or to be awarded a diplomalgraduate diploma or certificate by this college, are<br />

required to make application for the award on the form prescribed. Forms are<br />

available from, and must be lodged at, the student records <strong>of</strong>fice, administration<br />

building.<br />

Applications for all awards close on 31 October <strong>of</strong> the year in which the student<br />

anticipates completion <strong>of</strong> the academic work for the award.<br />

Students who anticipate completion <strong>of</strong> the academic work for an award are advised<br />

to apply for that awaid as early as possible and not defer application until the<br />

closing date. This will ensure that a statement certifying qualification for the<br />

particular award, or for admission to the particular degree, can be posted to the student<br />

immediately after qualification. Statements will be produced strictly in order <strong>of</strong><br />

receipt <strong>of</strong> application - the early receipt <strong>of</strong>-such a statement can make a significant<br />

difference to a graduand's salary.<br />

Degrees<br />

Degrees are conferred by the Victoria Institufe <strong>of</strong> Colleges on certification by this<br />

college that the student has completed the requirements for admission to the<br />

particular degree. Students who hope to qualify for a degree in 1976 should lodge<br />

their application forms at the student records <strong>of</strong>fice by March 1976 to ensure<br />

that the necessary certification may be completed at the earliest opportunitr.<br />

Such certification can affect a graduand's status in industry - thus early completion<br />

<strong>of</strong> the necessary checking is essential.<br />

The 1976 degree conferring ceremony will be held on Tuesday 27 April 1976 in the Civic<br />

Centre, Camberwell Road, Camberwell.<br />

1 Diplomas and certificates (iidustrial experience)<br />

Students should <strong>note</strong> that periods <strong>of</strong> industrial experience are required to qualify<br />

for the award <strong>of</strong> the following diplomas and certificates:<br />

Biochemistry diploma 12 weeks<br />

Applied chemistry diploma 12 weeks<br />

All engineering diplomas 12 weeks<br />

Applied chemistry certificate 4 years<br />

All engineering certificates 4 years<br />
