Conveyance allowance<br />

preliminary year students under 21 years <strong>of</strong> age, whose place <strong>of</strong> residence is situated<br />

outside a radius <strong>of</strong> three miles from the college, may make application for a<br />

conveyance allowance provided there is no other technical college nearer their<br />

home than <strong>Swinburne</strong> which provides a course <strong>of</strong> study comparable with that<br />

desired by the student. Distances are calculated on a radial basis on a map supplied<br />

by the Education Department, a copy <strong>of</strong> which can be viewed at the general<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the college.<br />

Students not attending the college nearest to their residence may receive an<br />

a) they applied for and were refused admittance to the college or colleges<br />

nearer to their homes, and they can produce documentary evidence to<br />

b) they can maintain that it is cheaper and easier to travel to <strong>Swinburne</strong>.<br />

Students who think they may be ellgible for a conveyance allowance should in-<br />

quire at the college general <strong>of</strong>fice before 1 March 1976. All application forms<br />

must be returned to the general <strong>of</strong>fice before 31 March 1976.<br />

Fare concessions r<br />

Applicants must take full advantage <strong>of</strong> concessions in fares since students travelling<br />

by rail or tram will be paid only the cost <strong>of</strong> special concession tickets.<br />

Wherever practicable, students must avail themselves <strong>of</strong> rail transport.<br />

Students travelling by more than one means <strong>of</strong> conveyance (rail and bus, tram<br />

and bus, etc.) may receive an allowance only for that transport involving the<br />

greater fare unless the distance travelled by each form <strong>of</strong> transport is at least three<br />

Except in special cases approved by the Minister <strong>of</strong> Education, a conveyance allowance<br />

in excess <strong>of</strong> $200 per annum will not be paid on behalf <strong>of</strong> any student. Eligible<br />

students who use as their means <strong>of</strong> transport bicycles, private motor cars, motor<br />

cycles, etc. are entitled to allowances at the rate <strong>of</strong> $20 per annum.
