The invincible forces of nature, vast emotions, and a strong woman in the Alaskan wilderness!
The year is 1899. After spending four years away from home, Shannon returns to San Francisco. Her
grandmother awaits her impatiently because Shannon is supposed to marry the wealthy Rob Conroy who has
inherited a company. Shannon agrees to the plan out of a sense of duty. However, enroute to her future
father-in-law she meets a mysterious stranger and falls head over heels in love. A passionate affair begins –
and ends when Jay leaves town to seek his fortune in Alaska. But then Shannon discovers that she is
pregnant and sets out to find Jay in the heart of the wilderness.
When her brother, Skip, who is accompanying her on the trip, is in danger of losing his life, Shannon heavyheartedly
decides to return to San Francisco and marry Rob. Although he is actually in love with someone
else, Rob is nevertheless so enchanted by Shannon that he takes her as his wife in spite of her pregnancy,
declaring the son she delivers several months later to be his own. In spite of that, Rob continues to meet with
his lover, and Shannon ultimately leaves him. She is utterly determined to travel to Alaska again and find Jay.
Little does she realize that Jay, for his part, has set out in search of her.
Shortly before Shannon departs, her grandmother holds her back, reminding her of her duties and how
desperately her sick brother, Skip, needs her. Rob apologizes and asks Shannon to marry him again in Italy.
She agrees to become involved with Rob one more time, but then she receives a package from Jay. She
reads the love letters he wrote to her in Alaska and is overjoyed when she learns that his ship will dock in San
Francisco the next day. In the meantime, Shannon's grandmother has also learned of the affair and hires
thugs to waylay Jay as he leaves the ship and shanghai him. Jay regains consciousness on a seal-hunting
vessel bound for the Bering Sea. Months later, he and a Swedish fellow prisoner are able to flee, and he
begins his journey home on foot. As Rob is enjoying himself with his lover, he suffers a stroke and is in critical
condition. Although he survives, he remains seriously impaired physically; Shannon doesn't have it in her
heart to abandon him. Rob, however, genuinely loves his wife and wishes nothing more fervently than to see
her happy. And so he strives to see Shannon and Jay develop a friendship – and to have another chance
after his death.
Glistening glaciers, grizzlies, and real men. Let the raw beauty of Alaska enchant you.
Norah Sanders has seen a lot on her travels and is particularly fascinated by the landscape and people of
the US/Canadian West Coast between California and Alaska. She discovered her passion for writing during a
trip to California. When she is not traveling, the author lives in southern Germany.
