Shropshire Revolution won their
first ever post-season game on Sunday,
5 September, dominating a tough
Edinburgh Wolves team 27-9. The win
puts Shropshire only one game away
from the National Division II final, a
remarkable feat in only the club’s fifth
season.
Shropshire travelled to Scotland
expecting a tough battle following
Wolves’ 6-3 victory over Revolution
in Telford last month and looked to be
facing an uphill battle as Edinburgh
struck first. A miss-aimed pass from
Shropshire Quarterback Rob McLean
was grabbed by Wolves defender
Campbell Lewis and returned 42-yards
for the first score. Edinburgh’s extra
point attempt was good to give the
home side an early 7-0 lead.
However, for the remainder of
the game, Shropshire dominated,
racking up four touchdowns and over
350-yards in offense. Firstly, Running
Back Lee Kazeem barged in from three
yards and with Matt Pearce kicking
the extra point, the game was levelled
at 7-7. Then Quarterback McLean,
making amends for his earlier mistake,
started to get his passing rhythm and
threw a five yard touchdown throw
to favourite target Rich Mantle.
Mantle was the hot receiver on the
day, catching six passes for 68-yards.
Again Pearce’s kick was good and
Shropshire went into the half-time
break with a 14-7 lead.
Revolution’s ground game then
again took centre stage with bruising
Running Back Russ Lingwood, who
had over 100-yards rushing for the
second consecutive game, barrelling
in from a yard out. Pearce’s kick
made the score 21-7. The final score
of the game was another McLean
throw, this one a 12-yarder to first year
Wide Receiver Ben Langford. The
point after attempt was blocked and
Edinburgh gained some consolation
as the blocked ball was returned the
length of the field by Paul McEwen for
