THE FIELD ARTILLERY JOURNAL<br />
1. Any later information regarding <strong>the</strong> situation or<br />
problem.<br />
2. The general front and limits of <strong>the</strong> battalion position.<br />
3. The limits of <strong>the</strong> target sector<br />
with <strong>the</strong> location of <strong>the</strong><br />
enemy and friendly troops.<br />
4. The major's station.<br />
5. The locality, in general, where <strong>the</strong> horses of <strong>the</strong> detail<br />
are to be held or linked and watched.<br />
6.<br />
The rendezvous point for <strong>the</strong> captains with <strong>the</strong>ir details<br />
(usually a well concealed point in close proximity to <strong>the</strong><br />
battalion station, but always <strong>the</strong> point<br />
at which <strong>the</strong> major<br />
wishes <strong>the</strong> captains to report to him).<br />
7.<br />
The special reconnaissance of <strong>the</strong> position which <strong>the</strong><br />
major desires made<br />
by certain designated reconnaissance<br />
officers or scouts.<br />
8. O<strong>the</strong>r special tasks for <strong>the</strong> reconnaissance<br />
officers and<br />
scouts (<strong>the</strong> adjutant in charge), such as:<br />
(a) Designation of flank or auxiliary observers.<br />
(b) Communication with <strong>the</strong> higher commander.<br />
(c) Communication<br />
with <strong>the</strong> troops supported by <strong>the</strong><br />
battalion.<br />
(d) Panoramic or position sketches required.<br />
(e) Reconnaissance or maps of routes to front or rear.<br />
Note to Sub-paragraph 7: As an example <strong>the</strong> major might<br />
order: "Lieutenant A reconnoiter that (pointing or o<strong>the</strong>rwise<br />
designating) position for a battery; Lieutenant B reconnoiter<br />
that position for <strong>the</strong> combat train; Lieutenant C takes <strong>the</strong><br />
agents and reconnoiter <strong>the</strong> most practicable route or routes for<br />
advance (or withdrawal) to<br />
a battery position, notes and reports on<br />
<strong>the</strong> following points:<br />
