Community Highlights: Calistoga is commited to promoting<br />

bicycling as an alterna�ve means <strong>of</strong> transporta�on and a great<br />

recrea�onal pas�me. Every school in the district par�cipates in<br />

the Safe Routes to School program. The Calistoga Elementary School<br />

provides a bi-annual safety program culmina�ng in the bicycle rodeo.<br />

Most Significant Recent Accomplishment: Calistoga increased its<br />

Bicycle Advisory Commi�ee membership to 5 members, who have<br />

assisted in the prepara�on <strong>of</strong> a comprehensive City Bike Map and<br />

have advocated for several grants and infrastructure projects. In<br />

2007, the City adopted its current Bicycle Transporta�on Plan (BTP).<br />

Since then the City has created an employee bicycle incen�ve<br />

program, installed bicycle parking facili�es, developed a Class I bike<br />

path segment, developed a bicycle map and supported the County’s<br />

efforts to conduct a Coutywide Greenway Feasibility Study.<br />

Community Highlights: Burlington’s Way to Go! Campaign and the<br />

BikeSmart safety program in elementary schools make Burlington<br />

a welcoming city for cycling. In the last few years, two important<br />

city plans were adopted to ensure a be�er bicycling environment.<br />

The Bicycle Parking Ordinance required short and long-term bike<br />

parking and commuter facili�es, such as lockers and showers, be installed<br />

with applicable development projects. Second, the comprehensive<br />

mul�-modal Transporta�on Plan was adopted by the Public<br />

Works Commission.<br />

Posi�ve Outcome from Receiving a BFC Designa�on: The BFC<br />

designa�on highlighted the improvements that are s�ll needed for<br />

Burlington to progress from Bronze to Silver BFC status.<br />

Community Highlights: Carmel commits to bicycling with resource<br />

alloca�on and full support from local leaders and ci�zens. The<br />

Monon Greenway is a powerful tool, and the community has built<br />

on its momentum to expand the community’s bicycling infrastructure.<br />

The Cool Creek North Trail, Carmel Drive Bridge and bike lanes<br />

are part <strong>of</strong> the latest road project bond issues. The investment is<br />

paying <strong>of</strong>f – Bike to Work Day a�endence has grown by 500 percent<br />

in four years.<br />

Most Significant Recent Accomplishment: Carmel implemented a<br />

new 100 mile bike rou�ng system called the Carmel Access Bikeway<br />

(CAB) that provides 10 �mes more miles <strong>of</strong> routes than the previous<br />

network. The City started bikecarmel.com for local biking info.<br />

a commitment to alternative transportation and provides<br />

a path for us to be able to increase that commitment.<br />

It gives Carrboro a clear blueprint to help<br />

continue to work for transportation options other than<br />

Community Highlights: Carrboro installed its first bike lane in 1980.<br />

Today, it boasts three miles <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>f-road trails and 26 miles <strong>of</strong> onroad<br />

bicycle facili�es over 6.3 square miles.<br />

Most Significant Recent Accomplishment: In March 2009, the<br />

Town adopted its Comprehensive Bicycle Transporta�on Plan,<br />

based on the Five E’s <strong>of</strong> the BFC program.<br />
