Community Highlights: Oxford strived to be the first community<br />
recognized in Mississippi for bicycle-friendliness and is redefining<br />
itself as a cycling town. The Pathway Commission brought in<br />
outside experts to discuss complete streets and road diets. Half<br />
the schools currently receive Safe Routes to School funded bicycle<br />
educa�on programs, and the Oxford Cycling Club (OCC) has played<br />
host to Smart Cycling courses. During the cycling season, OCC hosts<br />
rides for cyclists <strong>of</strong> all abili�es and organizes road and mountain<br />
bike races.<br />

Community Highlights: Park City <strong>of</strong>fers cycling opportuni�es for<br />
all types <strong>of</strong> riders, from u�litarian trips, to mountain biking and<br />
recrea�onal riding. The city’s mountain biking <strong>of</strong>ferings are world<br />
renowned with some 300 miles <strong>of</strong> singletrack trails that connect<br />
the community to three world-class ski resorts.<br />
Most Compelling Community Sta�s�c: The number <strong>of</strong> bike racks<br />
have increased 400 percent in the last few years.<br />

NEW Community Highlights: The City <strong>of</strong> Philadelphia is the first<br />
Bicycle Friendly Community in Pennsylvania, and according to the<br />
<strong>American</strong> Communites Survey, bike commu�ng to work increased<br />
89 percent from 2000 to 2008. The city has hired its first pedestrian<br />
bicycle coordinator. Its redesign <strong>of</strong> the South Street Bridge<br />
included colored bike lanes, advanced stop lines, bike signaliza�on<br />
and a bike access ramp to Schuylkill River Trail. Philly also launched<br />
a Bicycle Ambassadors Program to help encourage safe bicycling<br />
throughout the city.<br />

Community Highlights: Port Townsend’s cycling network has more<br />
than 50 percent <strong>of</strong> arterial roads having bike lanes or shoulders,<br />
18 miles <strong>of</strong> natural surface trails, and more than nine square miles<br />
<strong>of</strong> land. Local engineers and planners have a�ended Smart Cycling<br />
courses taught by the <strong>League</strong>, three out four schools <strong>of</strong>fer safety<br />
programs and a local c<strong>of</strong>fee house <strong>of</strong>fers bicycle maintenance educa�on.<br />
City employees are encouraged to bike to work, and their<br />
work facilites provide bike parking and showers.<br />
Most Significant Recent Accomplishment: The city hosted a <strong>League</strong><br />
Cycling Instructor cer�fica�on seminar to get people trained to lead<br />
more classes throughout the community.<br />
