Appointments Marlborough expands business development team Marlborough has appointed Tim Landon to its business development team. Mr Landon brings to the trust company nearly 20 years of experience within the trust, insurance and tax industry. With his experience in jurisdictions such as Hong Kong, Spain and the Middle East, Mr Landon’s responsibility will be developing relationships with introducers as well as new and existing clients within Europe and further afield. Having served as an officer in the South African Defence Force, Mr Landon went on to take up a management post in Hong Kong and then transferred to Guernsey in 1996 where he studied for his investment management, offshore fund administration and financial planning qualifications. He joins Marlborough from MeesPierson where he held the role of manager in the business development team. ‘Tim was exactly what we were looking for to broaden our client facing options. We are delighted to have Tim on board with his extensive knowledge and diverse experience,’ said Marlborough’s Nick Hannah. 18 | CONTACT | OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2010 | www.guernseychamber.com Managerial promotions at PricewaterhouseCooopers PricewaterhouseCoopers Channel Islands has announced that four staff across its Channel Islands offices have been promoted to senior manager level whilst a further eleven have been made managers. The staff have all been promoted in recognition of the continued effort they have put into the firm’s structured development programmes and the significant contribution they have made to the firm’s business areas. In Guernsey, the new senior managers are Avril Keenan and David Waldron. With seven years experience in the provision of audit and advisory services, Ms Keenan’s primary focus is in alternative investment funds. She joined PwC having qualified as an accountant in 2003 and in 2007 carried out a secondment with PwC Sydney. Mr Waldron joined the tax team in Guernsey in 2009 from PwC Dublin and has built on his experience with the Irish firm to focus on investment management with particular emphasis on private equity and real estate. Recently, he has helped clients work through the wider implications of the UK reporting fund regime. Four staff in the Guernsey office have also been rewarded with managerial promotions. They are Sam Arlotte, who joined the office in The four new managers at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Guernsey together with new senior manager Avril Keenan 2004 and works mainly in insurance as well as some funds and internal audit work; Lyndall Grewar, who started working at PwC in 2009 after moving to Guernsey from Johannesburg in South Africa; Sarmad Naim, who focuses predominantly on funds and real estate, and who joined the firm in 2008 from another firm in Pakistan; and James Read, who joined the firm in 2004 from university and who specialises in real estate funds, as well as fund of hedge funds and private equity. ‘Once again it’s really great to see members of the PricewaterhouseCoopers team in the Channel Islands excelling in their roles. Island Analysis appoints new director Island Analysis has promoted its head of research to director. Michaela de Vial will concentrate on the Guernsey-based research company’s new island benchmarking and best practice service online which is due to launch shortly. The new service will be available both to public and private sector organisations worldwide. ‘I am delighted to be part of the continuing success of Island Analysis. We offer a unique service and more and more interest is being shown globally in what we are able to do,’ said Dr de Vial. Chris Brock, chief executive of Island Analysis, said Dr de Vial was an invaluable member of the team. ‘Michaela’s contribution to the growth of business during the last two years has been immense and I am delighted that she now has real input into the way that we develop during the coming years,’ he said. Jones Watts strengthens team with new appointments Chartered surveyors and property consultants Jones Watts Limited has strengthened its professional team with the appointment of chartered commercial property surveyor Wing Lai and graduate surveyor Nicole Ozanne. Mr Lai, who has a degree in geography and a Masters in real estate management, qualified as a chartered surveyor last year whilst working as an asset manager for Bruntwood Limited, one of the largest commercial property owners and developers in the North of England. His role at Jones Watts will be advise clients on a wide range of commercial property matters and assist in developing the services it has to offer. ‘The opportunity to return to my home island to work for a truly independent multi-disciplinary practice, dedicated exclusively to commercial property is rare and I am enjoying the challenges this presents,’ he said. Miss Ozanne has recently completed a four year RICS and RTPI accredited Masters in property development and planning. She is now training to become a fully qualified chartered surveyor and her planning and development background is a welcome addition to the firm. The expansion of the team follows the appointment last year of Robert Wragg as a non-executive director. He has a wealth of expertise in the management of large property portfolios as well as experience in commercial property development. ‘Although we have only been trading for 12 months, Jones Watts has quickly made its mark and is now growing from strength to strength. We are delighted to welcome these new members to our team and now have a strong base to enable us to build a brand of excellence which provides Guernsey plc with sound, reasoned and impartial advice,’ said managing director Jo Watts.
