YBG met with group member Karen Solway, owner of
Things To Do Guernsey and organiser of the recent shows
here of famous performers Katherine Jenkins and Jools
Holland in order to find out exactly what a day in the
life of a major event organiser is all about.
there is an event on that evening, this
is when things start to get very hectic!
6 pm
i arrive at the venue to set up the ondoor
box office and ensure that all of
the artistes’ requirements are placed in
their dressing rooms. For large bands
such as Jools Holland this was quite a
shopping list! the artiste is then brought
to the event by the driver i have preorganised
at the requested time. i brief
my team of trusty volunteers on any ticket
queries and or any special requirements
that i am aware of. Musicians don’t
usually eat before they perform, so
at this point i also need to organise
suitable food for after the concert.
7 pm
Doors open and people start to flood
in! Shows normally commence at 8pm
and the big perk of my job is that i get
to enjoy all of the performances too.
11 pm
at the end of the event i clear the
dressing room area and, if it is a two
show performance, i make a list of any
new requirements for the following day.
it really is worth all the time and effort
in getting these big names over here, so
that they can see our beautiful island and
have the opportunity to bond with us.

why i love my job!
