New offering to
help fund retirement
An unusual addition to the island’s pension provision
options is expected to prove popular for Sydney
Charles Financial Services Ltd.
The company has just launched an innovative Rats
(Retirement Annuity Trust Scheme) which gives members
a multi-choice of fund managers. It has coupled this with
reduced annual management charges and free transfer
into it from existing schemes.
Sydney Charles has brought together Guernsey fund
providers Cenkos Channel Islands and Spearpoint with
leading UK specialist asset managers, Williams de Broë.
‘We are keen to ensure that the investment platform on
offer is as broad as possible,’ said Sydney Charles Chairman
Philip Lepp.
Founded as an insurance business, Sydney Charles recently
expanded into financial services in response to demand
from clients.
‘As far as we can tell, our Rats scheme is the only one of its
kind and we believe that its greater fund diversification
should provide excellent potential for investment growth,’
said Mr Lepp. He pointed out that strategies from multiple
managers are a rare offer, and believes that by working
with these leading local fund providers, anyone taking out
this type of scheme has an advantage over those with a
single manager. The fund’s trustees are Provident Financial
Services. ‘We are delighted to be working with such
prestigious strategic partners,’ he added.
He explained that the tax-efficient scheme, designed
specifically for Guernsey residents, has a large amount
of flexibility making it suitable for corporate members,
employed or self employed workers and individual
investors. ‘I think people appreciate the transparency and
the fact that we give them as much investment choice
as possible. We are also conscious of today’s market and
have coupled what we believe is an innovative offer with
reduced charges,’ he concluded.
