Ogier raises thousands for
Guernsey’s Lifeboat
Staff and partners at Ogier have
raised over £6,800 to help support
the island’s lifeboat service.
Each year every Ogier employee
has the opportunity to nominate a
charity for the law and fiduciary firm
to support which is then decided on
by a firm-wide vote. The Guernsey

of The Spirit of Guernsey is
dependent on such generosity and
this donation will be put to very good
use, such as the ongoing
maintenance and running costs of
the lifeboat as well as training for
the crew,’ said Celia Allen, chairman
of The Guernsey Lifeboat Guild.
The Ogier Active committee runs a
programme of fund-raising activities
including a prize draw, competitions
and raffles at the annual summer
ball, Christmas raffles, sales of
home-grown produce, cake sales and
by sponsorship of individual or team
activities. All funds raised by staff
over the year are then matched by
the partners.
‘Ogier Active puts in a tremendous
effort to ensure we can help a local
charity each year and I would like to
congratulate them on this latest
achievement. The Guernsey lifeboat
provides a vital service and is a very
worthwhile local cause to support,’
said Ogier partner Simon Davies.

Marathon relay race.

Six teams from RBC Wealth
Management’s Guernsey office joined
nearly 200 colleagues from the
company’s Jersey, London,
Cheltenham and Edinburgh offices to
take part in the Standard Chartered
Jersey Marathon.
The fastest of the six local teams,
the RBC Pumas, completed the race in
3hrs 38min 48secs and came 17th.
Jon Press was the only Guernsey
runner to enter the full marathon and
his personal best time of 3hrs 20min
7secs secured him 34th place.
Stanley Gibbons
acquires first
day cover
business
Stamps and collectibles dealer Stanley
Gibbons has bought the world’s leading
publisher of first day covers for £1.5m.
Stanley Gibbons, which is an AIM
listed company, has acquired the trade
and assets of the Benham first day
cover and collectible business from
Flying Brands Limited. Benham, which
trades in Jersey and the UK, specialises
in high quality first day covers but is
also a mail order collectibles retailer
and distributor of new issue stamps.
‘The Benham name is as
synonymous with quality first day covers
as the Stanley Gibbons name is with
philately,’ said Stanley Gibbons’ chief
executive officer Michael Hall.
‘Benham is a low risk bolt-on
acquisition providing a strong return on
capital, high level of continuity revenue,
good cash flows and diversification of
revenue streams.’
Mr Hall added that the acquisition will
provide opportunities for Stanley
Gibbons to diversify into other
collectibles markets and add specialist
skills in volume mail order, collector
club management and in-house design.
‘There are a number of synergies
between the two databases of
collectors and the products we sell, with
the potential to develop the Benham
website and cross-sell products online.
There are also considerable
opportunities to expand the combined
mail order activities of Stanley Gibbons
and Benham from Jersey,’ he said.
‘Following our recent research into
the Chinese collectibles market, we see
substantial opportunities to promote
and distribute specific China related
Benham products there.’
The company also expects that
commemorative collectible products
linked to the London Olympics 2012 will
deliver substantial one-off revenues to
the business.
