results at local, district, and state levels. Educational leaders at all levels access a rich data set to assist accountability
requirements, funding requests, curriculum planning, placement, and program retention and recruitment.

bit media has not only been a pathfinder <strong>for</strong> numerous e-government projects, but has also established itself in
business circles as a guarantor <strong>for</strong> high quality learning projects with a technological edge and flexible project
management. In the area of academic continuing education <strong>for</strong> example, the ECDL learning software from bit media is
a broadly implemented and proven teaching material. bit media’s activities range from authoring tools to the learning
management system elSITOS®, which they developed especially <strong>for</strong> schools in order to support the sustainable
integration of new media into the learning process.
Partners, like the federal authorities have successfully promoted the topic of e-<strong>Learning</strong> in the schools: The Ministry <strong>for</strong>
Education, Science and Culture (bm:bwk). The ministry’s technology partner is bit media. Together, they launched the
country-wide educational portal www.bildung.at. Effective immediately, the Ministry <strong>for</strong> Education, Science and Culture
in Austria, in cooperation with bit media e-<strong>Learning</strong> solution, is providing all schools the possibility to create their own
online learning areas.
Using 9 successfully proven practical examples, bit media presents a fully functional, country-wide learning structure
<strong>for</strong> Austrian schools.

Bildung.at is the portal to the pool of e-<strong>Learning</strong> activities in Austria. It is a comprehensive, national hub <strong>for</strong> educationrelevant
networks, a development plat<strong>for</strong>m <strong>for</strong> e-<strong>Learning</strong> and multimedia offerings and a plat<strong>for</strong>m and education pool
<strong>for</strong> all Austrian education initiatives managed by the Education Ministry. It is considered to be Austria’s most important
one-stop-shop <strong>for</strong> education in the Age of the In<strong>for</strong>mation Society.
In the framework of the Education Ministry’s eFit initiative, teaching and learning contents are made available and
promoted in the e<strong>Learning</strong> education pool in cooperation with partners. The spectrum of e<strong>Learning</strong> products and
services encompasses the development of e<strong>Learning</strong> building blocks, new standardized media products and projects
in the areas of eEducation, eScience, eCulture, and eTraining. Educational offerings are selected according to concrete
knowledge needs and individual training situations.
E-learning applications and virtual communication are getting more and more popular even in Austrians primary and
secondary school. The beginning of “e-learning” in schools is mostly the distribution of simple content (e.g. powerpoint),
