Vocational Training Needs in modern environments on small island nations: A Case Study of Seychelles
The global economy of the day has endangered the survival of most organizations worldwide especially those who
wish to be a part of the competitive race and gain competitive advantage. The situation of organizations in
developing nations particularly Small Island nations need a special attention due to constraint of very limited resources
and development infrastructure. To remain in the competitive race may become a distant dream in the absence
of superior quality products, which is indirectly the function of well-trained employees. In most of the organizations
at small island nations today career development resources are scarce and have to be used preciously. The
management anticipates the vocational trainers in different areas to justify their position and a regular feedback on
the output generated by them. Regular per<strong>for</strong>mance appraisals are also conducted. Career development and vocational
training activities demand <strong>for</strong> close monitoring, regular assessment and effective focus to serve the purpose of
the trainers, the trainees, and the organization. The identification of vocational training needs has become the top
priority of every progressive organization. In fact analysis of vocational training needs contributes in defining the gap
between what is happening and what should actually happen. Identification of vocational training needs if done
properly helps in <strong>for</strong>mulating a strategy on which all training activities can be planned. Apart from satisfying
development needs it helps the trainees to acquire multi-skills, motivating them to take extra responsibilities, increasing
all round competence and preparing future generation to take on higher-level responsibility. Brief analysis of
Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of organizations on small island nations. Example of Seychelles –
Introduction to prevailing organizational scenario and identification of vocational training needs. General areas of
training in the present day island nation organizations and etc. has been attempted in the present paper.

Situational Analysis of Vocational Education and Training in the Sudan: A Field Study
This field study analyzed the current situation of VET from the perspective of 600 students, 100 graduates, 30
instructors and 15 administrators in four States in the Sudan. Data was collected via self-administered questionnaires
as well as interviews. Gender disparity was evident in fewer girls being enrolled or graduated from Technical
Education Schools (TESs) and Vocational Training Centers (VTCs). It was also evident that as Federal and State
funds were becoming scarce, VET situation was deteriorated. The need <strong>for</strong> further training, curricula improvements
include introduction of more academic subjects and English language, upgrading technology to improve training
tools and facilities, linking business and industry to VET, changing the social image associated with VET field,
allocation of more Federal and State funds as well as further training of staff were considered crucial by the majority
of the students, graduates, instructors and administrators.

Vocational Training in Austria - possible contributions to a United Europe with special regards to the
Higher Technical and Vocational School Spengergasse
First the educational objectives of schools and colleges of engineering, arts and crafts in Austria will be highlighted.
Then a description of the education at „Spengergasse” , its different sectors and its cooperation with the
University of Derby in GB will be presented. According to the statement of the EU commission to develop in Europe
a dynamic competitive and knowledge based economic region until 2010 the contributions of the educational
system will be focussed : Quality management systems as base <strong>for</strong> more intensifying cooperartion:
English as working language, Training <strong>for</strong> teachers, Co-operation with enterprises, School exchange.
Afterwards some projects carried out at „Spengergasse‰ will be presented. The conclusion contains an outlook to
the future: the EU that has coped with its challenges will provide other countries with its experience.
