E-learning via satellite services on the basis of the evolearning plat<strong>for</strong>m across Europe
The ASTRA-NET satellite services provide broadband access to Internet-based content and enable the users to
participate in distance training and teaching live sessions European-wide.
Using the ASTRA-NET IP broadband network services <strong>for</strong> all training and learning applications improve the quality and
results of distance learning and training programmes extremely.
The integration of the evolearning plat<strong>for</strong>m allows the simultaneous and interactive education of an unlimited number of
participants. Audio, video and screen content is transmitted in real time and in the highest quality. The learning content
will be delivered cost-effective and and secure to addressed user groups in any European location, using the coverage
of the ASTRA satellites as well as TV. The participants are able to use the same dish <strong>for</strong> receiving the multimedia
content, as they are using <strong>for</strong> TV. Primarily the DSL – speed Internet connection via satellite with a bandwidth of 768
Kbit/sec and MPEG4 will be used <strong>for</strong> the transmission of the training sessions. Alternatively the participants can
retrieve learning content previously stored on the hard disk of their PC from an earlier satellite transmission. The terrestrial
telephone line, as a modem or ISDN connection, will be used as return-channel to the central point of teaching.

Local independent = Every location in Europe will be reached ( from Norway over Estonia, to Hungary, the Canary
Islands and UK )
Flexible = A small TV dish with a size between 60 and 80 cm will used
Variable = Corresponding to the content, which will be transmitted and trained, the bandwidth between 64Kbit/sec
and 8 Mbit/sec will be used
Projects were realised <strong>for</strong> example in the area of IT, healthcare and telemedicine services and education <strong>for</strong> teachers.
There is an experience <strong>for</strong> 5 years.

of Indigenous Knowledge Systems as Catalysts <strong>for</strong> Women’s Empowerment: A Case Study from India
What does DAHLEEZ mean?
It means the doorstep. In a metaphorical sense it is the space where the ‘Outside’ meets the ‘Inside ’. In many
traditional families the women are expected to remain "Inside Home Walls" i. e. Not To Cross the 'DAHLEEZ'. Rather
than alienating the women from their traditional values – the DAHLEEZ project seeks to empower them economically
through a process of intergenerational learning and revival of indigenous knowledge system. The project seeks to
support the process of economic empowerment of women from traditional joint families through creation of a ‘learning
web’ composed of families and of all other ‘learning spaces’ like the intergenerational learning, market place,
livelihood, nature.
What is the curriculum or ‘learning content’ this project proposes?
None. The action research is simply aiming at rein<strong>for</strong>cing the learning processes (critical analysis, reflection,
intergenerational learning and creativity) within a framework of an existing knowledge content which is composed, on
the one hand of traditional and indigenous knowledge and on the other hand of knowledge coming into the family via
schools, media, market <strong>for</strong>ces and other external agents.
