9.0 IMPORTANT WETLANDS OF ASSAM<br />
The state has a large number <strong>of</strong> lakes/ponds, rivers, ox-bow lakes <strong>and</strong> waterlogged area. The Brahamputra<br />
<strong>and</strong> Barak are two important rivers <strong>of</strong> Assam. Deepor beel, Dhir beel, Sareswar beel, Sone beel, Tamaranga<br />
beel <strong>and</strong> Sonai beel are some <strong>of</strong> the important <strong>wetl<strong>and</strong></strong> sites <strong>of</strong> Assam .<br />
Extensive field work was carried out for these <strong>wetl<strong>and</strong></strong> areas. Wetl<strong>and</strong> maps have been prepared for 5km<br />
buffer area <strong>of</strong> each <strong>wetl<strong>and</strong></strong> sites. Details <strong>of</strong> the <strong>wetl<strong>and</strong></strong>s <strong>and</strong> <strong>wetl<strong>and</strong></strong> maps <strong>of</strong> 5 km buffer area are shown in<br />
plates 4 to 21.<br />
